BLRC Seersucker Ride

The Buffalo Lazy Randonneur Club (BLRC) hosts a ride on the first Sunday of each season. Yesterday's ride celebrated the summer solstice. Of course the first weekend of summer would be cold and rainy. It poured early on which made me think I might not bother riding at all. After it cleared up I felt a bit more motivated. I was so motivated that I didn't bother to bring any rain gear. That was obviously a mistake.

Considering the weather, the turnout was pretty good. About 40 people showed up. In nicer weather, maybe 80-100 would have rode. The theme for the summer ride is seersucker. It's not the easiest material to find so when people find some they tend to wear it each year for the ride. I just went with red seersucker shorts for myself. It wasn't long before it started raining again.

When the rain stopped, we rode to our first stop, the new bridge over the I-190 highway. This is usually a quick stop to have a drink but the rain started coming down again. Once people started bringing out food I knew we weren't going anywhere for awhile. The bridge provides a small amount of shelter from the rain.

They decided at this point to shorten the ride. Normally we go to Delaware Park for a picnic but the ground would be too wet for that. There is a shelter on Unity Island so everyone went there. I lived 5 blocks away so I went home and took a nap before meeting everyone at the picnic shelter. Well, there were only a handful of us left by sunset.

But look! What a fine group of cyclists that is.

You guys seem to take bike as a religion up there, many people with baggage racks and everything, love it.

Funny "Fat Swimming" ahahaha

This ride draws an older crowd, a lot of touring and bike collector types. A lot of people bring out vintage bikes for this. I love their rides, but there won't be another one until fall. It's too bad we didn't get to have our picnic in the park.

I think the sign used to say "Swift Water No Swimming."

Yeah, I love the looks! the guys well dressed and cycling haha, so sad it rained. Btw the new version of the sign sounds better.
