As part of my Surrealism project I recreated Man Ray's 1920 readymade sculpture The Enigma of Isidore Ducasse. The title comes from French poet Isidore Ducasse aka Comte de Lautréamont and the imagery references a quote in his book Les Chants de Maldoror:
'Beautiful as the chance meeting, on a dissecting table, of a sewing machine and an umbrella'.
This is Man Ray's original object:
For my version I used an old toy sewing machine, a brown sweater, and twine.
