The three-point belt was revolutionary when it appeared on Aug. 13th, 1959. Volvo developed it to reduce casualties and injuries in traffic accidents. It was a simple but yet ingenious invention. By 1962 they gave away the patent for free as they believed it was essential that all cars were equipped with the three-point belt, and they didnt believe in monopoly for such an important product. Since its creation this invention has reduced casulaties by more than 50 percent and since the 1960s more than 1 000 000 people have been saved. No wonder they call Volvo the safest car in the world.

I like the Saab cars as well.

Saab where really popular in their heyday !

Incredible, a real intuition that changed the world of driving! I didn't know it came out from Volvo

Many don’t. They could have earned a fortune by keeping the patent. But it’s good they didn’t

I never knew it was invented by Volvo and thats great they gavce away the patent it has no doubt saved so many lives over the years

I also think it was really good of them to do that. one could only wish more could lead by the same example!

Exactly its not a common thing but it should be

You have a minor misspelling in the following sentence:

By 1962 they gave away the patent for free as they believed it was essential that all cars were equipped with the three-point belt, and they didnt belive in monopoly for such an important product.
It should be believe instead of belive.
