Here in the Philippines, Buwad is a Cebuano term for dried fish (usually split open), which in Cebuano is also the verb meaning "to dry in the sun". The mere smell of the buwad can make any appetite soar or any hungry stomach growl.

The drying of food is the world's oldest known preservation method, and dried fish has a storage life of several years.

The Buwad is very smelly but it is crunchy and chewy. If you give me a buwad, The whole pot of rice I might even finish all of it. Dip it in the spicy vinegar and your breakfast is Heaven.
