DISCUSSION TOPIC:
The Call To True Discipleship
BIBLE READING:
Luke 9: 18-27
Qs. 1,7. See Questions HERE.
DISCUSSION:
After the miracle of feeding a crowd of over five thousand people with only five loaves of bread and two fishes (vs. 10-17) and while having a private prayer session, Jesus asked His disciples about Jesus and knowing Him are never the same. Many, like the crowd, are still at the point of speculating about who Jesus is (see v. 19; see also vs. 7-8). Have you, like Peter, received and accepted God's truth about who Jesus is? Read and meditate on v. 20 and Matthew 16:16-17.
Jesus then explains what His Messiahship entails: suffering, rejection and death but followed by His resurrection. He then calls on all His hearers to willingly follow in His footsteps. This is the call to true discipleship - the willingness to endure any and everything for the sake of Christ and the glory of God. The more popular teachings of today's Christianity say very little about this call and tend to ignore Jesus' interpretation of the seed that fell among thorns (see Luke 8:7 and 14). In v. 22 Jesus was certain about His suffering, death and resurrection and in v.26, He is equally certain about His Second Coming.
So:
Let us heed His call (v. 23) and be confident that He will never be ashamed of us here and in eternity.
Prayer:
Pray that the Church will raise more disciples than mere followers.
REMAIN BLESSED!

If we confess him then he will confess us before the angels. But if we deny him, he will deny us. Lets get to know the Lord and not be ashamed.

I don't want to be a disciple of "the lord" for I might be asked to steal some poor fuck's donkey.
Luke 19:29-34 "[Jesus] sent two of his disciples, Saying, Go ye into the village . . . ye shall find a colt tied, whereon yet never man sat: loose him, and bring him hither. And if any man ask you, Why do ye loose him? thus shall ye say unto him, Because the Lord hath need of him. . . . And as they were loosing the colt, the owners thereof said unto them, Why loose ye the colt? And they said, The Lord hath need of him.

God is calling you today @rampelflik unto true discipleship. He needs you! The passage you cited above has a great spiritual significance, don't just see it from the literal sense.

Yeah, well, that's easy isn't it? Let's cherry pick what should be seen literally and what should be seen figuratively!
The bible is a load of Bullshit created by men to control other men. Don't believe its lies!

Amen! I love verse 24: "For whoever wants to save their life will lose it, but whoever loses their life for me will save it."
The great news is that Jesus actually came to give us life to the full! And that when we die we are raised with Him and walk into that life more abundantly!
We find life when we lay ours down! Love it! Thank you Jesus!
