Thank you for haiku
seventeen syllables that
evoke clarity
Cori MacNaughton
One of the things that anyone who follows me on Steem has surely noticed is that, when I get started, I can get really wordy.
Sometimes this is a good thing, as I like to give context and additional information, but sometimes, I get concerned that I'm drowning readers in information.
One of the things I have always loved about haiku is its conciseness. Seventeen syllables.
No more, no less, unless a specific change is made, such as for specific haiku challenges here on Steemit.
And, being limited to seventeen syllables, forces me to clarify my thinking, to choose my words wisely and, indeed, to be concise.
Sometimes structure and restrictions are a good thing.
All words and images are my own unless otherwise attributed.
The photo above is of the main hall, at Asilomar Conference Grounds, in Pacific Grove, California, on the Monterey peninsula, where I attended a conference in April 2017.
This has long been my favorite part of the California coast, along with the stretch from Inverness, in Marin County, north of San Francisco, northward to the Oregon border.
