Quote of the Day #55: Don't Go Broke Trying to Look Rich!

in dailyquotes •  8 years ago  (edited)

First impressions mean a lot, but how much is it worth to you?

We gauge the world around us based upon so many variables, it’s hard to keep track. We judge things and other people all the time. The intentions behind our judgements can also have many variables. When we see a an elegant woman driving a Range Rover, our impression and judgement will be a complete 360 from what it is seeing some 20-something beach bum dude cruising down the boardwalk on his skateboard.

Perception is reality and this is where we need to check ourselves before we wreck ourselves. Do not go beyond your financial means or your comfort level to try to appear to be what you are not. A well tailored suit can be had far less expensively and without a need for a complete Armani wardrobe shopping spree.

Make a good impression always, but don’t be what you are not. That is the fast track to losing BIG. Approach each day and each situation with a confident demeanor, the right attitude and the rest will fall into place. The wrong things at the wrong time will always cost you far more than they’re worth.

Good post Broseiden, today has been a great day for learning what humility really is and putting everything into perspective.

Thanks Coolibro, appreciated :) Those are the days man, that make us re-open our eyes a bit and recalibrate some stuff.

True @sandstorm. Stay humble, but stay clean. Even if you are poor, if you can take care of your self makes a good email. You don't need to show up in the lambo(even if it is nice), but iron your short, shower before a meeting, shave so that the bart is groomed. This small aspects are usually the one who leave the first impression. It is not a matter of richness, it is a matter of attitude,

Great insight and approach right there @alexvan. The attitude and the confidence doesn't need flashy clothes or cars. That can come later after financial success and it can be afforded and not faked.

It is a tough balance for most for sure. Especially since everything is so debt based now. If you actually own your car these days you are a minority but then if you actually own your car and it is older people act like it isn't that great and act like their car is better when in reality they don't even own it. It gets silly.

Also we have seen people right in front of our eyes essentially rise out of apparently nothing by faking it until he made it like Tai Lopez. It makes people feel like that might be a quicker route to rise up.

There are more and more of these fake it to make it fools everywhere I see these days. Those infomercial type guys are basically snakes, I don't know Tai Lopez's story, but thats probably fake too LOL.

When these people are just trying to impress friends or coworkers, the cycle will never end.

Well with a guy like Tai Lopez he rented a house in Hollywood and rented a Lamborghini Gallardo and did the "I'm here in my Garage" video. I don't have anything against him overall. He honestly just played the game. Eventually you realize that giving real advice is too hard for the masses. What they want to consume is very basic cookie cutter advice. You can get a lot bigger by looking successful and just talking positive and being motivational than actually giving real advice that a person can implement.
It is the sad truth.

That's pretty much all I know of the guy. Congrats to him, playing the game well. Your assessment of the masses is sadly more right than anything. That's why a lot of these slick dressing and talking dudes are all in the motivational speaker circles and they are all so loved.

So true...it brings up so many people, places and memories I wouldn't know where to begin

It's kind of a regular thing in this world, authenticity is not as common as it should be. Thanks for the comment @elew :)

Very true. You see so many youngish guys driving around in £50,000 - £60,000 cars wearing expensive watches these days. I cannot imagine that all of them have the means to easily afford it. A good percentage are just trying to impress the opposite sex. It's sad really. In the long run they will pay a lot more in debt repayments for depreciating assets when they could drive a reasonably nice car and put some money into investments or businesses. I guess you can't tell a young guy with a big ego, they will learn the hard way.

Learning the hard way is sometimes the only way. Thanks for sharing @unclehermit, that is so true.

Authenticity is key above all else man. Nobody likes a poser. I agree you should live within your means, but more importantly you should stick to who you really are. Don't try to impress people for the sake of it, it isn't worth it and it's a waste of time. You gotta do you for you, everything else will follow.

Solid post man, I like how much you were able to expand on this
