245,000 out of 5 million. Roughly 1 in 20 citizens of Queensland or 5% of the population are full-time employees of the QLD State government. How many are part time or contract? How many are employed by the local and Commonwealth governments?
Government is parasitical upon the host economy and yet we need government for defence and quarantine to ensure the physical strength of the country. We like to have government education, welfare and health care but at what cost? What did we used to do before welfare and health care came in the 1960's and 1980's respectively? We took care of them ourselves and saved a lot of money by shopping around, not paying middle men or being forced to buy from a monopoly.
As a general rule if it is necessary you will pay willingly for it. Would you not get MORE for your money by shopping around for a better deal. The government does not shop for better deals. When you have the market cornered you charge what you like - and they do!
If the entire economy collapses under the debt of welfare and health because the government is simply too big and too inefficient, whose fault is it?
Ours - We voted for it without any consideration for the cost. We have run up hundreds of billions of dollars in debts that our children and grandchildren will be forced to pay just so we don't have to organise our our health care or insurance.
It's the same for everything that the government weasels into. The costs are incomprehensible and continue to rise exponentially. That which can not continue - MUST END!
