The Dance of Cupid

Cupid held a festive dance,
Lovers here and there
Every pair held their hands,
Swaying without a care

Each step was matched with vibrant smiles,
Each turn, laughter ensued
Yet, I was in a corner,
Trying hard not to be rude

Not long after, Cupid saw me,
And invited me to dance
Yet I refused his offer,
Not wanting to risk a chance

As tempting as the bid may be,
I could tell the end of this farce
The dancers won’t last very long,
They certainly will grow scarce

Suddenly, a half dropped out,
And soon, a third remained
Later, a fourth fell down,
The passion all but waned

Before long, a tenth went out,
And shortly, a hundred more
That even before the music ended,
No pair was left on the floor

I knew that this would happen,
The end was in my sight
No pair could keep on dancing,
All were drained of might!

And yet, Cupid kept swaying,
He was going to and fro
When asked why he was doing this,
He smiled and then said so:

"Love is a timeless dance,
An ethereal act of majesty
And though at times, some get tired,
The music plays on for eternity

As long as I keep dancing,
Soon, pairs will come again
So, will you please allow me
To stick to my moves ‘til then?"

And as he went on dancing,
Some pairs rose on their feet
While others changed their partners,
It was a grand meet and greet

The dancers, now recovered,
They jumped, they stepped, they turned
The room was filled with fervor,
It felt like getting burned

Time may pass, partners change,
Yet the dance still remains
As ardent as ever, though tough at times,
With all the laughter and the pain

“And that, my friend, is love
Come, shall we start again?”
