Dance Weekend Special Eastern Europe: Bulgaria - Chalga

Hi guys - this is part 2 of the Eastern European Dance Weekend - my first part has been in German language covering the region of Saxony. The entire idea to cover Eastern Europe this weekend was made by the great post of @alexvan - check his profile - who covered Romania.

Why Bulgaria?

Most of the ones following me know I post a lot about Bulgaria as I consider this as my second home, wife comes from Burgas and I spend at least 4 weeks per year in this great country. They also have a special music scene which is either loved or hated across the region - called Chalga (my wife hates it!). I am not evaluating the style and the background as I am not a scientist specialised for society matters, hence I aim just to introduce this to you - I personally the style is mainly linked to the US Hip Hop style combined with local Folk elements.

To summarise - Chalga is a music / dance / folk genre common across several countries in South Eastern Europe. Basically this genre originated from Bulgaria and is a ethno-pop with influences from Greek, Turkish, Arabic, Romani, Albanian and Russian music usually including hot topics- sex. Just watch the videos by some of the Top Stars from Bulgaria below!

Invite me to a Bulgarian wedding and I will be there. Acid washed shorts for a bonus!

Haha deal madame

Irgendwie haben die Bulgaren was, die wissen scheinbar die Feste zu feiern :-)

Sehr schön Uwe - nicht nur wegen der Gute-Laune-Musik, sondern auch der privaten Geschichte mit dazu...

Thanks for the mention my friend, well I understand your wife on this matter :)), but all is a matter of taste. This music is good when you had to many beers ;)

By the way, the first and the thirs video is a Bulgarian-Romanian feature. The guy Costi is well known in this kind of gender being one of the most succesful producers also in Romania and in Bulgaria. He has also one song again with Andrea and Mario Winans:

Cool, always can learn from great comments, love the community for that. Cheers mate.

My God, @uwelang! 😂 I have the feeling that most foreigners like chalga! Lol

P.S. You should have included Azis ;)

lol - I thought of Azis - to make it not to become a sexist post - I really should have done that mate :-)

Bulgaria is a beautiful country, amazing people and good food. I Love banitsa!! My 9 years old son's favorite is DARA - K'vo ne chu.(Chalga)
Now, I know why you love BG music:):)

Mnogo dobre:):)

have a good day.

I have to say , you have picked very bad songs , chalga is nice sometimes and there is probably 10x better songs than these ones

Than help @uwelang and post some here as reply ;)

All a matter of taste right? You think so because of the music or the videos?

And what is "bad" in music? Post your favourites then instead of only complaining

Of course its a matter of taste , thats why i am saying my personal opinion about it , no complaining :) and i think so because of the singers u have picked ..

Sure i will post some
