My thoughts on Spike Chunsoft's upcoming changes to Terms of Service

In recent days the Danganronpa community reacted violently to this tweet, as Spike Chunsoft changed their terms of service to only allow streamers and let's players to stream content up to the end of chapter 1 of each game. I personally believe that such a thing is ludicrous to even try and enact given how the internet works, even if years old lets plays and other content like AMVs, reviews, and analytical discussions are struck down in the web of attempting to police Spike's content, getting past a bot is very easy even if you don't know much about how the algorithms strike content. If you are concerned than privating the content and re-uploading it with snow effects on the screen, the pitch of the voice changed and/or with a border around the content will suffice in protecting it from the bots.

More concerning to me is the attempted precedent at all, and what it could mean for companies having even more power over their consumer base than they already do. Consumers agreed to the terms of service for when the terms were different and shouldn't be held to be agreeing to terms changed or enforced after the fact, because it is not something that they consented, and should it ever go to court than it is likely that the court would side with the consumers. Unfortunately Video Game Publishers are notoriously controlling over their intellectual property and like to peddle exaggerations or misinformation to suit their unreasonable and domineering mindset when it comes to their IP and player-base. Remember the internet is a massive place, bots are easy to fool, and streams disappear into the either of sheer content regularly. What's more likely to happen is history repeating it, whenever an entity, company or country to to bring quote 'law and order' to the internet, they have no idea what they are doing, and innocents who follow the law are harassed by the bots and treated as guilty until proven innocent, while the criminals who benefit from breaking the laws benefit from the ineptitude of it all. The best case scenario is that nothing occurs period because of the stupidity behind this attempt at controlling their content is poorly conceived and unenforceable in the way that Spike Chunsoft wants it to be.
