One of the best ways of actually judging a project and whether it is a good one or not is by looking at the team behind if. If the team or the creator is anonymous, it can be really hard to make a good judgment, but if you actually know the people behind something, it will make your investment so much easier.
I have used this several times in my own life, especially when I have been insecure about whether a project is valid and if it will be there long-term or not.
