Daredevil 'Mad' Mike Hughes dies in homemade rocket disaster. The 64-year-old died on Saturday after a homemade rocket he was attached to launched then crashed shortly after takeoff in the California desert. The self-styled daredevil wanted to prove the Flat Earth theory by taking photographs of Earth from his steam-powered craft.
