Story Line : The disappearance of two children in a German town leads to secrets of four families and a link to something supernatural in 1986 in this mystery thriller written by Jantje Friese and directed by Baran bo Odar.
Summary : This is Netflix's first original German Series. Dark, will inevitably be compared to Stranger Things. Both series focus on children who have gone missing; both are set, partially in Dark’s case, in the 1980s; both involve unexplained phenomena that cause lights to flicker, among other things; and both reveal underground pathways that connect to a mysterious facility that’s key to the show’s central mysteries. In Stranger Things, that facility is Hawkins Lab, where scientists have engaged in studies reminiscent of the CIA’s MK-Ultra experiments. In Dark, it’s a nuclear power plant, a nod to the Chernobyl disaster in 1986, which looms over the series in multiple ways.
But Dark, now streaming and presented with English subtitles, is tonally quite different from that show about Dustin and his pet Demogorgon. As laid out by co-creators Baran bo Odar, a Swiss filmmaker, and German screenwriter Jantje Friese, its moods and hues are much more in line with the original French version of The Returned. Every day in Winden, the small German town where Dark takes place, is as gray and overcast as the moods of its characters.
Jonas – the main character and son of Daniel Kahnwald, the man who took his own life – is struggling to cope with his father’s death and fit back into an everyday routine in the small, myopic community. Things only get more complicated when, during a late-night mission to unearth some hidden weed stashed by a friend who has been missing for a week, he’s the last person to see Mikkel Nielsen, who has apparently vanished into thin air as well. That inscrutable voiceover starts to make more sense when it is revealed that Mikkel has managed to make his way to 1986. Far from being the moment Dark’s creator, Baran bo Odar, jumps the shark, the switch back to the mid 80s is when Dark really gets interesting. There’s no Marty McFly righting wrongs for Mikkel, though, who returns to his house only to find an angsty, thrash metal-loving version of his father (Ulrich), who has little interest in helping out a lost child, even though his own brother disappeared a few months earlier. The 1986 version of his mother isn’t any more sympathetic, so it’s left to the town’s police chief and a lonely nurse to look after him.
Ratings : Metacritic gives this show an average of 61 score due to it being slow like a truck dump and time travel. Some people even left it mid way and didn't complete all ten episodes due to it being kinda sullen and sour. While User Ratings on Metacritic exceed 8.0 which is at 8.4 right now so judging by that I can say that Users really enjoyed watching it although no idea how MetaCritic Curators Judge the show.
Rotten Tomatoes : 83% Rating with 7.1/10 makes it worth to watch considering the fair ratings by RT and Audience score at 94% with Average ratings 4.6/5 makes it look super good.
Personal Rating : Will update it as soon I watch it as it is in my To-Watch list :D.
