"FACEBOOK HAS NEVER had much of a reputation for letting users hide their identities online. But now the world’s least anonymous website has just joined the Web’s most anonymous network.
In a first-of-its-kind move for a Silicon Valley giant, Facebook on Friday launched a Tor hidden service, a version of its website that runs the anonymity software Tor. That new site, which can only be accessed by users running the Tor software, bounces users’ connections through three extra encrypted hops to random computers around the Internet, making it far harder for any network spy observing that traffic to trace their origin.
Inviting users to connect to Facebook over Tor may seem like a strange move; given that Facebook still requires you to log in and doesn’t allow pseudonyms (in most cases), even Tor users on the site are hardly anonymous to Facebook itself. But even so, Tor users on Facebook can now protect their identities from every other online snoop that would want to unmask them. “No, you’re not anonymous to Facebook when you log in, but this provides a huge benefit for users who want security and privacy,” says Runa Sandvik, a former Tor developer who Facebook credits with advising the project in a blog post. “You get around the censorship and local adversarial surveillance, and it adds another layer of security on top of your connection.”
Tor, after all, doesn’t just let users hide their identities from the sites they visit, anonymously buying drugs on the Silk Road or uploading leaked documents to news sites through the leak platform SecureDrop. It’s also designed to circumvent censorship and surveillance that occurs much closer to the user’s own connection, such as in repressive regimes like Iran or China. there should be an anonymous encrypted decentralized system that keeps track of peoples scores and reviews like to allow people to see who is trustworthy, and I did find a couple webites like this , "yelp" of the darkweb, many services exist just for that purpose. I am thinking of doing some articles about teh darknet, and how people are becoming their own little drug lord safely and anonymously online without ever having to meet a single drug customer. It's so interesting I am trying to find a way to profit off the culture itself,m without actually participating in selling anything online, which is tempting, but I think I can make just as much if not more with documentaries and articles and videos on youtube ABOUT the darknet, showing like for example the movie Dope, where it shows how there is really no problem selling drugs when you use the darknet, anything and everything can be moved as long as you are up on your encryption and bitcoin game! At this point there isnt a need to convert bitcoins to cash, there might be a need to buy some bitcoins at one point but bitcoin ATMs and localbitcoin type websites make that part extremely easy and even anonymous to a point where people have been supporting this multi billion dollar drug darknet market for years now!
You could write a whole essay about how drugs really did help bitcoin get to where it is today, and make parallels to how Porn helped the entire INTERNET expand to where it is today! Porn used to be a large fraction of the internet and was the money making internet dependent businesses that drove innovation in a way! And today Porn is only a small fraction like less than 2 percent of global internet bandwidth....Just like how today more and more bitcoin transactions are legit and not criminal in nature....Of course when bitcoin first started, and in the days of the original silk road, online drug sales really did help bitcoin become adopted by a large group of people online who all realized they could use it and still do as anonymous money exchange, if Pablo Escobar had something like bitcoin while he was alive, he could have had billions in bitcoin instead of billions in cash that got mold and eaten by rats to the point where he was loosing millions, and also having to spend millions on rubber bands, so of course drug king pins now adays are using bitcoin (if they are smart) and perhaps many drug king pins of today and other criminal groups have large holdings in bitcoin and orther crypto currencies
and so what if they do? Criminals also have large amounts of Cash and Gold and Real estate does that mean you shouldnt be involved in any cash or gold or real estate? Just because there are some blood diamonds doesnt mean that you cant still use diamonds as money in every city on earth....
The Production of Legal Cannabis in some states in America is a great example of how if enough people are in a black market they will adopt corporate consumer strategy for distribution, packaging, online menus, etc, ebay style feedback system, and the darknet is another example of how if theres enough people in the market, and the technology is there, people will buy and sell drugs online
