The famous German Autobahn - and a bit of town

in dashcam •  6 years ago  (edited)

If you folks from the US or elsewhere have heard about the German Autobahn (Highway) and want to take a look at it, here is your chance to do so.

This is a dashcam video I made some years ago, coming back from the Hannover airport to Herford, on a sunday afternoon. Thats why there is so little traffic and almost no trucks on the road. During the week, its jam packed with trucks and cars, and traffic jams every day.
But being clear like that, I was able to put my foot down a bit, at least where it was legal to do so. Not to my speed record, but to about 110 mph or so.
By the way, there are not always so many VW Beetles on the road - I guess there must have been a Beetle owners convention or something. Nomally, Beetles are a rare view nowadays.
Here it is:

There are no accidents or hairy situations in this video, that was not the point of making it.
If you are patient, you can get a bit of a impression how it looks in the northwest of Germany. But today there are probably even more wind mills, they are being build all over the country .

Have fun, your's

Ich wollte halt flott nach Hause. Blöde Sonntagsfahrten...

Is it true that you can drive as fast as you want on the Autobahn?

Yes, there is no general speed limit. But as you can see in the video, there are often local speed limits. But if there is nothing stated, you can drive as fast as you want. Or as fast as you can, rather. :)
