A new global labour market has been growing on online platforms such as Fiverr, Peopleperhour, Guru, Freelancer, etc. People with digitally-oriented skills can sell their labour outside of any long-term contractual basis project-by-project. The benefits for bringing supply and demand of such skills together goes without saying, but there is a larger trend at work here. Corporations find it easier than ever to outsource work and reap ever more fruits of globalisation by employing people outside of any contractual working agreement, and more importantly in low-income countries.
In Europe and in North America, this trend will continue to lower the power of trade unions, put pressure on work security and downward pressure on wages in these affected new sectors.
