Introduction

Over the course of the past few years there has being a massive increase in the demand for a secure and trusted file sharing system on the worldwide web. And as such the need for a community-oriented cloud service that is free for all and stands to serve majorly the interest of the community. One that allows for unrestricted access to it’s database and is readily available to everyone.

Due to the recent war on data administrators like Facebook, Google, Amazon, Apple et al with regards to consumer data privacy and security. A group of Blockchain and I.T Enthusiasts decides to bring a permanent halt to the distrust that exists between traditional cloud administrators by first eliminating the possibility of selling clients’ data to third party agents via the establishment of a trusted data sharing protocol.

“Files.Fm Library is proposed to be designed as an ecosystem of volunteers who participate in various activities such as uploading, editing and moderating certain contents that would normally be unavailable to the general public in exchange for the in-house FFM Token.”

Problem Definition

Presently in the conventional online file sharing systems there exist three main problem definitions that stands to pose a greater threat than the others. Applying to both existing and nascient content that are being generated, These problems includes;

- Illegal File Sharing
- Insufficient Data Preservation
- Limited Platform Features

ILLEGAL FILE SHARING

Most Peer-To-Peer (P2P) File Sharing Networks are subject to constant harassments from copyright regulators. The subscribers to such illegally termed content sharing ecosystems are also not free off this intimidation from established cloud services as they are also being hounded and persecuted for complicity. These includes long-lasting centralized (Megauploads, FTP Servers, Bulletin Board Systems) and decentralized (Napster, BitTorrent, Direct Connect, eDonkey, Kazaa) solutions that provides the general public with easy access to rare contents on the web. These P2P Networks are liable to such copyrights policing because there was never an establishment of a communication chain between the Content developers / Authors and these File sharing Networks.

INSUFFICIENT DATA PRESERVATION

The 21st century is fraught with rapid increase in digitally generate data birthing with it new revenue streams for all the other sectors of the economy. Mitigating the already existing headache of converting traditional analog data into digital form but with it’s wake comes an even challenging task of preserving these data overtime for future research and statistical purposes. With a meagre amount of 4.4 Zettabytes of digital data being generated globally over the span of this present decade, According to a research conducted the International Data Corp (IDC) there would be a 30% increase in this value in the next two decades. This significant increase in the overall data generated worldwide is estimated to peak to an all-time high of 163 Zettabytes in 2025 precisely, which means an increased amount of resources (163 Zettabytes of data requires 16 billion hard drives with each one having a capacity of atleast 12 terabytes) handle to such database.

The data preservation techniques of digitally generated data are not as efficient as in when compared to their old-time peers. Preserving data in an analogous format is often more beneficial as it allows for a detailed and classified data storage system but the reverse is the case for the present day digital libraries that tends to store only available and limited data. Since storing these files conventionally onto a digital space comes with a demanding feat of providing the adequate resource to manage such increase in size. Hence real-time streaming and downloads from digital libraries tends to be slow since most of them do not have the financial backup to provide a suitable infrastructure to handle future expansion. Additionally digital file sharing platforms do not ship-in with protocols that allows for Users to upload and contribute to their existing database and even where there exist such features it is often than not user-friendly.

LIMITED PLATFORM FEATURES

Nowadays only a few P2P Protocol conglomerates can provide a platform that incorporates such features as an increased storage capacity, faster traffic with more functionality and usability. To establish and maintain a system with these capabilities requires a lot than meets the eyes. As even some established cloud service administrators censors their bandwidth download and upload limits such as Google-Drive and Dropbox while others urges the user to remit a commission for any content they access on a pay-as-you-go basis such as Netflix. These measures are set in place to serve as a maintenance mechanism to raise fund for future platform expenditures. A research on YouTube shows that a whooping sum of $6.35 billion USD is required to maintain the number one Video File Sharing platform over the span of a year. Though these limitations are only relative to centralized file sharing networks such as YouTube, Spotify, Amazon, IBM, Microsoft e.t.c, as their decentralized counterparts are self sustaining since they are community-oriented, the resources and cost of maintenance are shared amongst the members of the community. However fascinating the idealism sounds these existing decentralized P2P networks are soiled with the fact that most of them do not yet support a reward system for data creators.

The Files.Fm Solution

The team behind the Files.Fm library has taken into consideration the importance of intellectual property in the world of content generation and privacy and decided to incorporate the advantages fraught with blockchain technology to upgrade upon the already existing P2P file sharing innovative idea. By leveraging upon the decentralized feature of the Blockchain the Files.Fm provides a safe, secure and transparent file sharing network. One with an incentivising scheme for both consumers as well as content creators. And as a free to use community-oriented hybrid-decentralized P2P data protocol, designed upon acceptable standards the platform upholds both the legal and financial rights to handle such a mammoth database.

As a solution to the aforementioned problems hence the need for the creation of a legal and free to use digital file library that provides the an accessibility where the community can conveniently store, access, search and share useful content online with the eradication of copyright infringements. Files.Fm network is ruthlessly extensive and as such it’s database is readily expandable, with a society moderated content uploading mechanism and a user-friendly UI/UX design that is compatible with all browsers, the platform developers focuses on achieving a one stop shop for data hungry consumers.

The community will be motivated with FFM tokens to do useful work, we will implement a transparent blockchain database and use Tit-for-Tat principles for storage sharing. The content will be free to store and use, it will be available through free and fast P2P shared traffic and the intelligent property content will be sold using blockchain technology. Files.Fm Data Sharing Protocol would incorporate an in-built tokenization mechanism to facilitate an incentivising scheme so as to reward regular platform participants for their engagements on the network. Such engagements that could attract the in-house FFM token includes;

- Uploading: A content in any format ( Video, Audio, Document, Pictures, Articles, Podcasts and much more).
- Moderating: These contents by updating and adding to it, making suggestions for new users on the platform where necessary.
- Engaging: With these content such as upvoting, commenting or downvoting a content you find not to Ben useful or true.

With data preservation being one of the primary goals of the Files.Fm library, the ecosystem has regulations in place to curtail the upload of illegal and harmful data onto the network. Developing a platform that would support and ensure data preservation for future generations and providing a convenient and searchable free to use file sharing system. FIles.Fm Library corner stones will be usability, community and content.

this is one of the best things I've seen from this space yet, though the files.fm community, I'm pretty sure, will be given a run for their money in light of platforms like NextCloud, so we'll have to see how this goes.

Unlike NextCloud, the Files.Fm ecosystem is built upon an underlying blockchain technology that unlocks certain features which are naturally beyond the reach of conventional cloud technologies. Such features as a smart contract/consensus mechanism that allows for the initiation of any transaction between two parties on the platform, tokenization as well as the decentralization attributes makes Files.Fm steps ahead of it’s peers.

I was looking at it. It's pretty impressive, so I can't quite discover a way to get up there yet. I'll have to look more. It's very quiet at work today, but still.

You should take a much closer look and maybe participate in the upcoming Intital coin Offering scheduled to take place on Friday, 1st of March, 2019 by getting whitelisted for the crowdsale via this link: https://files.fm/library/

This is going to be interesting, because I've never participated in one of these before. I've never found a means to justify the cost of paying for the sort of thing with real money. What if it doesn't work out? I would lose a ton of money.

But I can assure you the Files.Fm Library crowdfunding would provide a guaranteed return on investment.

File sharing has a huge demand by internet users, everything is moving digital and if file sharing is well implemented it would close a huge gap in the "FileSharing" ecosystem. I hope this company do their homework and deliver an efficient system. I wish them success.
