Hey guys! A few days ago I was thinking of how the Steem blockchain could evolve as a whole and move away from being purely a social network. We have so many applications built on top of Steemit already like Dlive, Dtube and Dsound just to name a few. However, what if we had a Dbay or something like that for digital items!
I've decided to repost this as my last post didn't get too much attention, as most the upvotes (probably 95%) came from upvote bots I purchased and a lot of the comments were just spam! I'd like to get an actual Steem dev or someone who knows what's going on to tell me if something like this is actually doable or not, thanks!
The philosophy
Today, we have a lot of places to buy and download digital items, I was thinking Steemit could establish a central platform where you can buy anything digital! From original music, to original games or original movies, perhaps even an anti-virus or wallpaper, anything that can you can upload (with permission)!
How would it work?
1) Item Listing
- First user uploads a file onto the Steem blockchain which is scammed for viruses
- The file might cost a few Steem per GB to upload
- Steem generates a link to the file (similar to images)
- This file is now on the Steemit blockchain for you and others to access (or 3rd party server)
- You can sell this file via DBay
- If first tag on post is dbay and contains a file, the want to sell post will appear on dbay.com
- The remaining 4 tags can be the description of the item, e.g art, game, music and so on
- The seller sets a price (minimum 0.1Steem or 0.1SBD) and upon a sale, the blockchain burns 1% of the sale to reduce inflation
2) Item Searching and Buying
As mentioned before, selling tags will be different from traditional tags to streamline the shopping process
Users can go on dbay.com to shop
If a user wants to buy an item, simply click buy. If the user has enough funds, 98% of the funds are transferred to the user and 1% burnt and the user will unlock the ability to download the file via their account. The remaining 1% should go to the devs who run the site! The actual ratios could be changed and the 98:1:1 is just a suggestion.
3) Plagiarism or copyright
This may be a problem as it's very easy to simply download a file and resell it for cheaper
To counter this, I propose that the money from selling files should count towards the author payouts, thus affected by downvotes.
This way if something is plagiarized, the plagiarizer will earn no money from the software if caught out early and even lose money from the uploading fee.
4) Benefits for Steem and Steemit
Burns steem which decreases supply thus increases the power each unit of Steem has
Brings another application to the Steem ecosystem
Promotes creativity and software development/art/music/ anything uploadable and downloadable!
5) Grand vision
Imagine if your favorite artist had Steemit and you could download their music straight from Steemit!
Imagine your favorite online artist had Steemit and you could download their artwork straight from Steemit!
Imagine Steemit being the central platform for downloading anything online!
6) Disclaimer
Obviously this isn't a perfect plan, in fact this is the very first (second time I guess) time I've ever put this into words, so there might be obvious flaws I haven't considered so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to comment! I don't know if this is even possible but who knows what the future might hold!
