Steemit Suggestion: Online Store for Software/Files/Music etc (Any Digital Items!)

in dbay •  7 years ago  (edited)

Hey guys! Today I was thinking of how the Steem blockchain could evolve as a whole and move away from being purely a social network. We have so many applications built on top of Steemit already like Dlive, Dtube and Dsound just to name a few. However, what if we have a Dbay or something like that for digital items!

The philosophy

Today, we have a lot of places to buy and download digital items, I was thinking Steemit could establish a central platform where you can buy anything digital! From original music, to original games or original movies, perhaps even an anti-virus or wallpaper, anything that can you can upload (with permission)!

How would it work?

1) Item Listing

  • First user uploads a file onto the Steem blockchain which is scammed for viruses
  • The file might cost a few Steem per GB to upload
  • Steem generates a link to the file (similar to images)
  • This file is now on the Steemit blockchain for you and others to access
  • You can sell this file via DBay
  • If first tag on post is dbay and contains a file, the want to sell post will appear on dbay.com
  • The remaining 4 tags can be the description of the item, e.g art, game, music and so on
  • The seller sets a price (minimum 0.1Steem or 0.1SBD) and upon a sale, the blockchain burns 1% of the sale to reduce inflation

2) Item Searching and Buying

  • As mentioned before, selling tags will be different from traditional tags to streamline the shopping process
  • Users can go on dbay.com to shop
  • If a user wants to buy an item, simply click buy. If the user has enough funds, 98% of the funds are transferred to the user and 1% burnt and the user will unlock the ability to download the file via their account. The remaining 1% should go to the devs who run the site!

3) Plagiarism or copyright

  • This may be a problem as it's very easy to simply download a file and resell it for cheaper
  • To counter this, I propose that the money from selling files should count towards the author payouts, thus affected by downvotes.
  • This way if something is plagiarized, the plagiarizer will earn no money from the software if caught out early and even lose money from the uploading fee

4) Benefits for Steem and Steemit

  • Burns steem which decreases supply thus increases the power each unit of Steem has
  • Brings another application to the Steem ecosystem
  • Promotes creativity and software development/art/music/ anything uploadable and downloadable!

5) Grand vision

  • Imagine if your favorite artist had Steemit and you could download their music straight from Steemit!
  • Imagine your favorite online artist had Steemit and you could download their artwork straight from Steemit!
  • Imagine Steemit being the central platform for downloading anything online!

6) Disclaimer

Obviously this isn't a perfect plan, in fact the very first time I've ever put this into words, so there might be obvious flaws I haven't considered so if anyone has any suggestions feel free to comment! I don't know if this is even possible but who knows what the future might hold!

I have used upvote bots for this post because I think this is a promising idea! This is the first time using a few upvote bots at once so this is kinda like an experiment for me as well haha

kindly explain what us upvote bot????

An upvote bot is a bot that you can pay for upvotes!
This is useful to promote some of your posts that you think are by giving it more visibility.

It was something on my mind, I just need to mention a few things about your suggestion, I'm not an expert tho, these might be wrong.

  • First user uploads a file onto the Steem blockchain which is scammed for viruses
You can't upload a file to blockchain, blockchain works with json data, you can upload it to 3rd party hosting and get the link. (That will cost extra money for sure)

  • Item Searching and Buying
Searching is not an easy job if you want to do it on blockchain you can extract the data to database and make your queries there then it will be fine but for this you need to monitor every operation and parse the data and host this data aswell (parsing and hosting will cost you aswell)

  • If a user wants to buy an item, simply click buy. If the user has enough funds, 98% of the funds are transferred to the user and 1% burnt and the user will unlock the ability to download the file via their account
And where is the benefit for developer it would be fine to cut out some for the service you provide.

  • This may be a problem as it's very easy to simply download a file and resell it for cheaper
You can generate license files but you can't avoid warez.

  • Grand vision
It doesn't have to be my favourite artist, if you can provide a marketplace then it's just fine for me. If you can avoid steemit's greedy approach somehow. Then it will easier to market and can be expand to non-steemers, you can help steem growth this way.

And there were already a few project that you can host and sell things I just couldn't remember their names right now, I'll update when I remember.

  • Perhaps we could get a third party to co-operate with us and pay Steem for hosting fees
  • I was thinking of a website similar to Dlive, all the content on that site have the DLive tag so maybe if you have a DBay tab it appears on the dbay.com website
  • 98% to seller, 1% burnt and 1% developer! I forgot to add the 1% to developer, thanks for mentioning this error
  • Start off with an account that can upvote good use of the marketplace and downvote plagiarized files. Similar to the DLive account that upvotes "good content"
  • The goal is to have a fully functional marketplace for all digital goods! I agree it will expand Steem and increase utility for the token!

Thanks for your input! I don't understand all of it since I'm first year uni and only just starting to learn about coding and computer and stuff but hopefully some of my counters/solutions make sense! Thanks for your time!

peerhub seems to be for normal physical items
steemgigs seems to be for services
i don't really understand github LOL

what's the point? If the steem currency doesn't provide value to the application then it shouldn't be built on steem.

You buy and sell using Steem.
Being built on the Steem blockchain enhances the utility of Steem and also the 1% fee lessens the inflation of Steem thus increases the value of each Steem

It's good for steem but not for dbay. It's easier for people to buy with fiat.
Anyway, I wish you good luck and I hope you make this work!

That's true! That is why making it on Steem could be such a big deal. Like dlive and dtube is on Steem, making it on Steem is both an opportunity and limitation for both of those websites but mainly an opportunity for the Steem blockchain itself!

As a freelance electronic music producer myself, I would love the ability to sell my music or contract out my services in exchange for steem credits. This would be an interesting addition to the ecosystem but we have to be careful because the more products that become sold on a platform like this the more government will try to get involved.

Not to mention how easy it is to abuse digital sales platforms and infringe on copyright. The moment illegal activity begins taking place the entire platform will be attacked so we must be extremely diligent that WE are the moderators and WE define a clear set of powerful rules and regulations as the foundation of what we allow on the platform, thereby protecting all future users by adhering to copyright law, etc.

I agree! This is by far the largest issue I see us facing. I was thinking perhaps we can start with a centralized governing account with millions of delegated SP to boost good content and downvote plagiarism before thhe system can become fully self-governing.

Thanks for your reply!

You should look into SteemSongs. The guy working on it is @thisisbenbrick.

I just checked out his intropost and it seems very similar to what I have in mind! However, I propose something bigger than just music, I was thinking maybe a central platform for all things digital to be purchased and sold.

I see his post was from 11 months ago, how is the project going?

Man, that's a good idea! The only major problem is to make that work.

Yes, that's a major problem to many ideas LOL

good suggestions @cryptoeater , very interesting and promising I will begin to apply, gracais for sharing

Thanks! I hope this idea and post gains some traction so more people can see it!

That's a great idea. Thanks for sharing and I would like to see platform like this. It will bring lots of artists, coders, photographers etc. on the Steem Blockchain which means a lot. I would like to resteem this post for even more visibility.

Thanks friend!

Hopefully someone with a bit more power will be able to see it to see if it's really possible to achieve this!

You are welcome. I think it's quite possible but just needs lots of work and management. I hope others will be interested to make it work too.

Yeah... it will need a lot of development and maintaining which I simply don't know how to do!

I just hope at least one person with some knowledge or power on the Steem blockchain can see it and spread the word around!

If not I'll wait for the payout and make a re-post with some changes and boost it with bots again!

Good luck, @cryptoeater. That will be the new word in the crypto world. I am for it.

really informative make it more easier for initials ,,,great job done

ahaha thanks man, you flatter me!

Sounds swell..... Maybe it's in their future plans

Hi,
My blog is about humans of Steemit... Their names, location and also interests/ what their blog is all about. Would be glad if you could send it to me at [email protected] or leave it as a comment and tag me in it. Would be of great help to direct noobs on great accounts to follow, as my blog grows. Thanks

cheers! hopefully something on their list!

This is really good information and you explain it in very good way...:)

Well it could work, but i feel it might be best for another group to offer such a service.... Hard enough to run a company or project, when it's still growing.

other 3rd parties can run and operate it, like 3rd parties run dtube and dlive and dmania etc
