Watching the outside Wall of Daewoongjeon in Yeongwhasa TemplesteemCreated with Sketch.

As thinking that the boundary between life and death is not far from each other in Jijangejon hall, I looked around Daewoongjeon Hall. The way looking at the temple changed as I began to post about the Korean temple on Steemit. At first, I just glanced off. They looked all alike for me at first. But I became interested in detail as I was continuing the post. Then, I began to compare the differences between the temples.

You get great pleasure when you find a difference in what others say is similar. It's a sense of spiritual contentment. The same goes for finding similarities in something that other people are saying different. It means that my eyes were changed when I have begun to post when it comes to the traditional Korean temple.

The appearance of Daewoongjeon Hall, in Yeongwhasa temple, differed from other temples in two ways. The dragon sculptures under the eaves were very realistic. Since it was recently built, the dragon sculpture would have carved with a machine tool. Nevertheless, the dragon under the eaves of Daewoongjeon was very great and colorful. The word “Yeongwha” means that it is forever magnificent. I thought that the splendid sculpture of Daewoongjeon Hall had something to do with the name of the temple.

On the left and right side of the front board, you can see the heads of the Yellow and Blue dragons. Unlike other temples, Daewoongjeon Hall has a dragon's head was connected to the body through the wall. I've never seen a dragon's head was connected to the head in the Daewoongjeon building.

The second feature of Daewoongjeon Hall is that the mural paintings in great detail. The contents were well explained under the mural. Although there are murals depicting Buddha's life in every Daewoongjeon Hall, few have ever seen a place described in detail like this temple. On one side was a mural that represented a famous anecdote of Buddhist monks.

The mural of Daewoongjeon gives the impression similar to that of the Catholic Church. The Buddha paintings found in the middle of the Silk Road in Central Asia also had a similar feeling that it was hard to distinguish them from those of Catholicism or Greek Orthodox Church. Christianity represents the Western as Buddhism represents the Eastern religion. There are too many similarities between the two. Therefore, I think it is wrong to judge that Eastern and Western cultures have different cultural roots. The ideological base of Buddhism and Christianity does not seem to be very different.

Hi @slowwalker

There are many similarities all over the world
Archaeological excavations of ancient temples and other buildings often show a dragon head or snake head and often with a human body. They are described as gods who came from heaven. Modern archeology and science today question whether we have previously been visited by extraterrestrials and that they have also developed DNA into what man is today. Can dragon heads and snakes be one of the reasons why it is used in various beliefs around the world.
May former gods be what has evolved into beliefs that many believe in today's different worlds

Wow, I should say these are authentic work of art. The dragons differs in character detailS and with the colour schemes as well. Deep versus bright neonized colour. Am amazed with the talent and patience of these artists. I salute them. I wonder how long was the work done! Asian temples really has really exotic ambiance. I should try to visit these temples! Thanks, for the share, slowwalker!

I like this post very much, while exploring your own countries and the history behind the cultures, different nations that influences many generations throughout the years and might be centuries, in this post you started to explore the beliefs of people who have different religions. In my eyes, all the religions have one common source of origin, at the end we are all the children of human race. The beautiful wooden dragons, it was interesting to see the tails of dragon penetrating through the wall. Nice paintings with descriptions too :)

I agree with you that there are many similarities between Eastern and Western cultures, as if it had a common trunk. Seeing the paintings of the Buddha in the temple, although I do not understand the Korean language, I think I understand that they represent the life of Siddhartha Gautama before its conception, going through the process of enlightenment to become a Buddha, until the ceremony of his death. In truth, very similar to Christian art.

Thank you very much for your excellent posts.

PS: The detail of the headless dragon that joins the temple is very interesting. It will be that the same temple is the head of the dragon.

a temple that has a rich history of science, this temple must be guarded by good friends

@slowwalker,
Wow you reminds me dragons entrances in my country temples! They both got a lot of similarities! You have made a collection of great photography of them!

I agree. There are so many similarities. We are just too caught up in our own 'culture' to see anyone else's.

they covered everything so nicely from walls to roof everything looks so incredible

It's amazing that the dragon's head was connected to the body through the wall.
Also a painting around the dragon's body is very colorful and detailed.

I call this calibration of eyes. When your eyes become calibrated, you can find difference in many things which others can't.

Below word truly applicable for all religion. The root is similar almost every cases. No religion support bad things rather encourage to do good deeds.

The ideological base of Buddhism and Christianity does not seem to be very different.

@slowwalker, With your continuous exploring now you've great experience about Korean temples. So now you can find differences much better. Here's you found two differences. Yeah those mural paintings has best description. It would be helpful to understand what's story included these painting. Our paintings has details like this.
