DeafAB

At cSeeker, there are few things we love more than getting out there and meeting as many new Deaf people as possible.

So we were delighted to be back at Deafab recently for this event in Leeds, having had a great time last year in Manchester. We were pleased to be sponsors of the weekend as well.

Deafab is a celebration of members of the Deaf LGBT community across Britain and Ireland, is entirely run by volunteers, and takes place in a new city each year. This was the ninth Deafab, and previous venues for the festival have included Cardiff and Birmingham, as well as Ireland.

Deafab is essentially one big party, and so mainly consists of social events held over two days.

In Leeds, it was based around the local gay village, where there was an introductory evening on the Friday and a Disney-themed gathering on the Saturday night. There was a raffle, prizes for the best drag outfit and other fun aspects to the party.

cSeeker’s Co-Director Alex Orlov was at the weekend. He said: “It was great to be in Leeds, and to meet Deaf friends from across Britain and further afield, for example from Germany and Ireland.

“During the day on the Saturday there was a visit to the Royal Armouries Museum in the city, which was superb, and we had a nice meal afterwards.”

We also used the occasion to give out some cSeeker merchandise and information, and made some useful contacts. We’re already looking forward to Deafab 2018 in Bristol! Next year, not only will we be sponsoring and promoting the event, we’ll be helping out directly as volunteers, too.
