"Dear Dawne - Quality Content And Why It Matters!"

Season 1 - Episode 5

We Have An Experienced "Steemit Personal Mentor" To Help You Directly!

(Also Newbie Nickels Added Again This Week!)

General Topic: Quality Content And Why It Matters!

What makes quality content? What brings people to your page? What makes them read, comment and Upvote your post?

All questions I hear dozens of times a day.

So let's break the questions down...

What makes quality content?
First you need to find out what you want to write about. What are your passions? Start there.
If you love to cook... share a recipe. Take pictures along the way of preparations; or videos if you want and share using dtube. But don't just post images or videos. Post the recipe and some helpful tips and hints. Share WHY this is one of your favorite recipes. Was it one your family always shared for Sunday dinner together? Was it one you learned all by yourself. Bring the reader into your post. At the end of that post, ask the readers to share their favorite recipe. Always end your post with a question. This invites the readers in.
ALSO, make sure you are formatting correctly. I have pinned a few links with formatting tips in the newbieresteem Discord group.

What brings people to your page?
HAVE a snappy headline and title. If you are writing about a fun adventure you took over the weekend and have some pictures to share, then make your title and first picture of the post the BEST it can be. Take a look at @papa-pepper's page. ALL his title have an inviting feel to them. Look at my recent post here. It's titled “Well it has started and I'm not sure how to stop it”. Just seeing that you have no idea what I was writing about, but now you're curious.

What makes them read, comment and Upvote your post?
HAVE fun... add humor to the post; where you can and if not a serious topic. In the above mentioned post I did, I made fun of myself. I added little slips of humor. Make the reader smile, make them relate to what you're writing about. The more interaction possibilities you leave in your post; the more followers, Upvotes and comments you'll start seeing coming your way.

Newbie Nickels (Available to EVERYONE for TODAY ONLY, Newbies only after that)

Anyone can play. Anyone can join. You don't have to be a newbie, to win this Newbie Nickel.

First, a Newbie Nickel is something that we at the #newbieresteemday initiative use to incentivize the newbies to play games or enter contests. Its a $0.05 upvote on their entry in the game/contest and it guarantees them something for making an effort. For some newbies this $0.05 is more than they can make on many posts, so it is indeed a way to earn "something" and to learn/engage at the same time.

How To Get Your Newbie Nickel TODAY ONLY On This Post

#1 Leave a comment to Dawne on this post. It must be a question directed at her asking for her help, or it must be a relevant observation to her topic of the day.
#2 If you leave a comment and Dawne responds, you can earn a "bonus" Newbie Nickel for a relevant additional comment to her. Note: that is (2) Newbie Nickels just by engaging Dawne and following up respectfully with her replies!
#3 Resteem this post and tell me about it in the comment section and I will give you a 1 Newbie Nickel for that! You must leave a comment to me (@davemccoy) so that @goldendawne only focuses on her discussions.

Got it? You can earn up to (3) Newbie Nickels today just by engaging in thoughtful and engaging dialogue!

I like reading articles that make you think, rethink. inspire! mottviruyut! this post helped me a lot! very interesting! Thanks to the author !!!!!! Good job!!!

I find this post to be really helpful. Blogging for me has been like a self-discovery journey, having to harness my strengths and weaknesses. But how do I find my niche so to say?

To find your niche- you need to first determine what you absolutely LOVE. What are your hobbies?
Do you like to be outdoors? Do you have a skill that is unique? Maybe you like to take pictures and share traveling. WHatever it is you will find a tag here to use. The topics are endless on steemit.

So what do you do in your free time? Let me know and maybe I can guide you to some post topics.

Thank you so much @goldendawne. Yes, i do love being in front of a camera, i love to share a fashion story, i love hanging out with friends and i love photography. I tried curating a fashion post sometime ago,but i felt there was no tag for it, so i didnt post it .. Thanks for letting me know there's a tagfor every post.

Ok, what I would suggest is... go shopping at a local boutique or store, maybe take a few quick videos about what makes this outfit fashionable or what makes that pair of shoes the ONES TO HAVE this season, etc. Also take some pictures too- maybe of your trying on one of the outfits in the video, etc... then make your post

Oh waow! I actually had a thought like this....i waved it aside. I guess this is sign then, definitely will try this then! Thank you so much

Dear @goldendawne, my friend said that when she reached the level/reputation I am in now, her account was already more than $100. Mine is lower which is fine by me. What I'd like to ask is, does this mean that reputation does not necessarily equate to account value in $? Also, we know it gets harder to level up as you progress, do you have any tips we could use?

I am be no means an expert when it comes to accounts values, reputation or any thing in that realm, but I do have a great post to share from a couple of months ago Reputation Score 101 : What is Steemit Reputation Score, How is It Calculated and Why Should We Bother?. He explains the repuation and how many variables go into figuring the scores and accounts' value.

There are so many factors to consider and when I first started there was a fellow member who started the same week as I did. We had a friendly competition of reputation etc for months! We both soon learned each account. page and member cannot be compared to another. First it will drive you CRAZY (just as peeking in your and others' wallets- DON'T do it- it will become obsessive!) and secondly if you read the article... comments, UPvotes and your own visibility have so much to do with you $$ value- as well as the price of steem and SBD- which both fluctuate every second.

Yes! It does take longer to get to the next level the higher your reputation goes up. What works? Honestly- COMMENTING and more commenting, getting (NOT giving) UPvotes and interaction.

If you go here- (I already inserted your name) https://steemworld.org/@wander-full you will see in the stats tab your actual reputation number. It's to the right of words account details. This steemit tool is one I use EVERY day.

here is mine- https://steemworld.org/@goldendawne
Mine is 59.816 but on steemit it just says 59. I haven't made a post yet today but I have been commenting all morning long. Yesterday my actual reputation number was 59.721, so I went up quite a bit just by commenting and scrolling around interacting with others.

Got that! Thanks so much @goldendawne! Need to keep interacting with others!

Dear @goldendawne when you like cover a lot of different topics and genres and some of them are politically charged or even can come off a bit debate-ish, ranty or even "negative" do you think it's best to add some lighter content in between these types of posts??
Also, I love doing big research projects and writing long, in depth posts with lots of sources however that can take me a week (or longer) to put together. I've been throwing in quick little "20 min blog a days" with lighter, off the top of my head topics so fill the void in between my big projects... do you think this is a good idea or should I hold back for fear of creating crappy/spammy-ish content?
Thank you so much for reading my questions! I know I'm not a newbie but I can definitely use your advice :-D

In regards to political content; the choice is yours. I have seen political posts since my first days on steemit. Being who I am, I avoid drama and don't meddle in others' disputes and drama, I have not written about politics or commented on the posts.

The nice thing about steemit is you are interacting with so many people across the world, and they all have their political views whether in the USA, Germany or Malaysia, and I have seen some intelligent conversations and friendly debates happening. But keep in mind, you can never post a political article without opposition or borderline negativity. so if you decide to post political topics I would perhaps recommend sticking to facts versus propaganda or what is considered pundit views.

Regarding sticking in some shorter posts- I have done this myself and sometimes still do. Trust me, I have dozens and dozens of posts to keep me busy for weeks, if not months, but some days (if I am suffering from an episode from my auto-immune disease) I will only post a short/quick article just to stay visible to my followers. If you posts TOO many of these though, it could be misconstrued as spammy, so I would advise you to limit these types of posts unless they are tag and truly photography, contests or challenges.

thank you @goldendawne !! I guess I didn't mean exactly politics as in republicans/democrats all that nonsense LOL I don't pay much attention to that but I guess I meant more like social injustice kind of political-ish posts but I've taken your advice very seriously anyways because regardless of the exact topic you do really have to stick to the facts and not instigate arguments.
And I will totally take your other wise words into consideration too. I'm glad to hear that you do the same thing a bit (now I know I'm on the right road). Sorry to hear about your auto-immune disease -sending you good vibes and love my dear!

Ok... so in regards to topics then- you are referring to other things than actual politics. Got it... I would say the same rules apply. Maybe search the topic you are thinking about writing about and see what else is on steemit now. Read through the comments on the posts and see what negativity you may be facing.

ahhh very good idea! thank you! I'm building a series of blogs looking at the prison industrial system as well as the social stigmas created against inmates, felons etc - I got some good feedback on a "warm up" post I did the other day which made me a little more confident that people will respond at least in a civil manner lol
I can imagine there will be a bunch of blogs floating about on this topic so I my next step is to see what I'm up against!

Perfect- so you have already tested the waters more or less and know what you'd like to discuss. Make sure too- link back to that original post you made too

ohh thank you for the reminder! I keep forgetting to do that with my tarot tueadays posts too. lol

Hi @davemccoy! Resteemed this post! Thanks for your support to newbies. It is inspiring especially when we feel disheartened with our low payouts and low views of our posts. This Q&A is a great idea, by the way. Thanks again for the things you do for Steemit! 😊

Please don't let the early stages of small or no payouts discourage you @wander-full

We have all felt that and it's not fun or encouraging at all. But looking back, when I first started I used that time of low payouts to perfect my formatting, topic ideas and gain my following. If you were to look back on my page (keep in mind it's 7 months of posting) you will see I had some posts with zip...zero...nada but I'm still here. Today I have one post paying out over $50... keep at it!

Thanks for the encouragement @goldendawne! Yes, I will keep working and will do my very best!😊

Dear @goldendawne,thanks for giving me this privileged to Arizona out my problems.
Basically the only challenge am facing is the "bandwidth limit" last night I couldn't even comment or follow someone here on steemit, it simply makes my account useless. Is there a way this problem can be fixed??

Bandwidth issues were really bad last week and the week before; I think some of it was behind the scenes and out of the members' control.

I have searched on steemit to see what has been happening with it and I haven't seen any updates yet this week.

Hello @goldendawne, I must admit i am a bit confused about the whole steemit peocess. How do i get my post seen by lots of steemians? I can tell you my posts don't get seen by a lot of people and also get low upvotes.

The main thing to do is to gain more followers. I see you are only being followed by 73 people and are following 102 people. In your last post you had 15 views. But you are new so this is to be expected.

The best advice to gain followers is to comment. Not just on the people you follow and that are following you- go under the new tab, use the trending tab and start finding posts that interest you and comment. Commit to making 5 new comments a day; meaning new members that you wouldn't have commented on before. I have found if you comment on a new person, they are 75% likely to go to your page and check you out.

And also, when commenting- make the comments good and with quality. DO NOT.. I cannot stress this enough.. DO NOT just say "good post, thank you... good information". Make your comment well thought out. When you post "good post, thank you... good information" people view this as spam and will eventually start flagging you and your comments.

@goldendawne, the more I am reading on Steemit and you have just corroborated, the secret seems to be comment, comment, comment!

What I learned from your reply to @cheekah ...

• Comment, "not just on the people you follow and that are following you ..."

• Go to New tab and Trending tabs and "start finding posts that interest you and comment."

• "Commit to making 5 new comments a day; meaning new members that you wouldn't have commented on before."

Very good advice and thank you!

Yes @kismet2018- all of these tips will help you expand your following, find new people you may have never known about before, has the potential for comments on your own posts and even possibly some UPvotes.

Committing yourself to comment on five new people every day seems like a lot, but within a week's time, you'll be doing it automatically and commenting on more than just five people's posts.

Thanks for the advice.

and again you have helped me big time @davemccoy.. Your post have always been informative.. Thank you

Awesome @sawi, I'm so glad to hear that!!! Thank you for letting me know that, its motivating to me to know awesome people like you get some benefits from it!!!

it's good to read post that are very beneficial to steemians specially who still struggles to be noticed. I've also shared what I have learned from you sir @davemccoy.. I hope you post more like this.

To get more visibility. look at the reply I made to @cheekah. All solid advice and helped me get to where I am today.

wow thank you.. I'm gonna do that..

Dear@goldendawne, please does a well written post even guarantees upvotes? Because I believe most people dont have time to read one's vote not to talk of knowing whether they are quality or not. Thank you

Sadly, no.
In my early stages of steemit I would spend hours perfecting my post, researching and gathering information just to be let down with 10 UPvotes, four comments and a low pay out- BUT, over time I have gained a solid following and have been rewarded for my dedication and hard work.

Keep in mind some people use auto upvoting bots too. SO they don't read a post, it's just set up to UPvote without ever seeing a word of the post. I have never used auto bots. All my upvotes are manually curated and all my comments are 100% mine and thought out.

Thank you very much

Thank you @davemccoy & @goldendawne for all you do for us minnows! Dave, am I validated?

:) ... Kismet you are welcome and always validated of course... Now you should the opportunity of meeting @goldendawne to have her look at your latest post or 2 or asking her to critique your introduction! She's here to help you grow and Tuesday are a great day to utilize her talents!!! So don't be shy and ask her anything!!!

Dear @goldendawne I feel guilty asking any more of you as your help and encouragement have been more than generous. Thank you so much!

I do have a question regarding Upvoting. How do I maintain a "healthy" Voting Power (minimum 80%)?

I am finding it a bit of a balancing act. Too much Upvoting seems to reduce Voting Power. Not enough Upvoting isn't "healthy" either! If 80% is the goal, I am trying to gauge how much actual Upvoting that translates into. Not sure if I explained myself well here.

@davemccoy, thank you for the free coins! You are too kind to us, minnows!!

Most people in the beginning and early time on steemit have a difficult time with their UPvoting power. You are allowed only so many UPvotes and they are always at 100%; which limits you to how much and how many votes you can give in a 24 hour period.

I keep track of my voting power here- steemworld.org/INSERT your name here and you can keep track of how much you have and when it will be powered back to 100%

Another place you can control your steem power is here. Read this post by a fellow homesteader of mine and see where to go to get the slider before you reach 500sp in your acoount. Now, I have never used this website but I have heard from many people that it's great.

Thank you for the steemworld.org info, @goldendawne! @davemccoy put me onto that about a week ago and yes it makes a huge difference!

I have not looked at the Voting Slider you posted the link for yet. I have been trying to use the Manual Voting Slider function on steemworld.org with @bashadow's patient help. I know @lynncoyle1 has been experiencing similar error messages. I am told this is @steemchiller 's project so I am sure he knows about this and will be addressing it.

Meanwhile, thank you for your help, @goldendawne!

Hey there @kismet2018, I left you a message in Discord because I spoke with @steemchiller and got it all sorted out. Check your messages, the answers are all there :) It was our error, not @steemchillers...I'm sure that comes as no surprise; it didn't to me, after all, it usually is human error haha

Haha ... of course! My assumptions is if ANYTHING goes wrong, especially on Steemit, it's because of my not knowing! That's a given - hehe

As for @steemchiller's steemworld.org, I am blown away by the brilliant mind that developed that! I will check Discord! I really appreciate your following up with me @lynncoyle1!

thank you for post! great work and great article! I loved it!
