"Dear Dawne - Joining Groups & Being Involved With Discord"
Season 1 - Episode 10
We Have An Experienced "Steemit Personal Mentor" To Help You Directly!
(Also Newbie Nickels Added Again This Week!)
General Topic: Joining Groups & Being Involved With Discord
First I want to say thank you to @davemccoy for filling in for me last week. I really appreciate it!
This week I want to talk about some groups for you to join and how they can be beneficial.
- Don't be a post-promotion link dropper- Chat in the group. Click on some other member's links and comment. Say you saw their link in the group you joined. This helps them to see where you came from, it may help others find the group and it gives the person who made the post the knowledge that what they're doing is working.
- Even if you don't have a lot of time, you can still try and post in a group and chat for a few minutes every day. When members see you're active, you show up daily, etc., they are more likely to view you as a committed person and steemian.
- You can't do this alone. You need support from others. So by joining, and being active, in Discord groups, you'll start to see more traffic to your page, more Upvotes and comments coming your way.
- I belong to 26 Discord groups. I'm not active in all of them; although I want to be. But I do check in, check the post-promotion channels for members I may have missed and see who is doing what. I am constantly looking into the groups; and I can guarantee I find someone new every day. For example,I just joined the group steemsugars last week and am hoping to start being active in there this week (now that I am feeling better). There are some GREAT women in this group and I want to interact with them.
I have been able to make some wonderful connections in these groups, learned so much from the members and have advance my steemit career much further than I would have going solo.
Some of the Discord groups I am VERY active in are thesteemengine, steemitbloggers (which is invite only), @qurator, homesteadersonline, thewritersblock (muxxybot curation) and preppersonline. I post links, I chat, I follow links and comment and I resteem curation posts to my own page. If you visit my page, you'll see many of them there.
What is @qurator?
As a member of @qurator we already know you post original content and we fully support original quality content, especially from minnows. We send out daily upvotes to all our Qurites if they post, but if they show some participation or invest in @qurator we feel they deserve some better rewards from @qurator.
In a post by @flauwy, he describes the group as this:
All members of @qurator are receiving an upvote once a day. It is very hard to find your audience on Steemit, particularly when you are a newcomer or a small Minnow. The @qurator service will support you every day with an upvote depending on your Tier rank. Also, the qurators are offering quality support and highlight five great posts of their members every day. On their Discord channel you can find further support and create a network with other authors.
You really need to read @flauwy's post as he explains Qurator perfectly!
If you haven't checked out qurator or requested to become a member I would highly recommend it. There's a daily newsletter that I write seven days a week, plus Tuesdays and Fridays are special contest days with a second newsletter post.
It An Open Forum So Ask "Dawne" Anything!
Newbie Nickels (Available to EVERYONE for TODAY ONLY, Newbies only after that)
Anyone can play. Anyone can join. You don't have to be a newbie, to win this Newbie Nickel.
First, a Newbie Nickel is something that we at the #newbieresteemday initiative use to incentivize the newbies to play games or enter contests. Its a $0.05 upvote on their entry in the game/contest and it guarantees them something for making an effort. For some newbies this $0.05 is more than they can make on many posts, so it is indeed a way to earn "something" and to learn/engage at the same time.
How To Get Your Newbie Nickel TODAY ONLY On This Post
#1 Leave a comment to Dawne on this post. It must be a question directed at her asking for her help, or it must be a relevant observation to her topic of the day.
#2 If you leave a comment and Dawne responds, you can earn a "bonus" Newbie Nickel for a relevant additional comment to her. Note: that is (2) Newbie Nickels just by engaging Dawne and following up respectfully with her replies!
#3 Resteem this post and tell me about it in the comment section and I will give you a 1 Newbie Nickel for that! You must leave a comment to me (@davemccoy) so that @goldendawne only focuses on her discussions.
Got it? You can earn up to (3) Newbie Nickels today just by engaging in thoughtful and engaging dialogue!
When: Today!!!
We are proud to present the news that #newbieresteemday and @goldendawne have teamed up in a partnership called "Dear Dawne". @goldendawne is an accomplished member of our community and she wants to help both the members of the Newbie Resteen Initiative and alse the "newbies" we serve.
Dawne will be regularly participating with us in a program called "Dear Dawne" where she will take comments, look directly at your posts and give you one on one suggestions, (and she will even go through your blog... How's that for being awesome!). Basically she wants to be your mentor and help you with ideas, formatting, access to resources, and even applying for various grants and delegations. Plus you can get "discovered" by a valued and connected member than can help you rise through the ranks!
Quick Facts About Dawne
In just the last two months, Dawne has:
- Become the writer & staff member for @qurator (which if you dont know about it, you should)
- Been delegated 10k SP from a whale- she is a Stewards of Gondor recipient
- Holds weekly, sometimes daily, contests to share the delegation she was awarded and given
- She is a mentor in certain Discord groups and helps incoming new members with formatting, posts and how to succeed
In the mentor program she is involved in... she says "the best reward is knowing and watching the people you partnered up with have their own steemit page and posts blossom and grow".
She is the real deal.
To read more about Dawne check out her past post: Personal Mentoring Statement For Homesteadersonline Community or just go to her steemit page @goldendawne an see the quality of her work and the connections she has.
How It Will Work
"Dear Dawne" will be available to help you individually today. She will answer questions, she will offer advice, she will even direct you to the right place if you don't know how to find something on Steemit. This is your chance to connect with a "60" Reputation Steemian on an individual and personal basis.
She is available to give you guidance and help in just a few hours. You just ask your questions to her in the comment section. Its that simple. She will read the comment section and reply individually with you and decide how best to help you from there.
Want a weird info fact? you opened this steemit account the very same I did mine, my brother from another mother. :-)

@davemccoy I have resteemed this post as Brian and I were discussing Discord this past weekend, and finding it a bit frustrating as the time differences sometimes leave us with hardly anyone to chat with, and secondly our internet is depressingly slow! But we will persevere.
So, maybe I can ask @goldendawne for some advice here quickly!
Firstly, we were questioning @steembasicincome - is it legit? And how do we find out how many shares we have. I think I have 3, and I get upvotes of .06 (.07 yesterday) from steembasicincome on my posts. My friend gets 0.00 from SBI3?
Secondly, is it possible to look at my measly wallet, and advise me what to do in order for my upvotes to NOT be 0.00 most of the time (I seem to only be able to give one person 0.01.)
Hope I'm not being confusing, and thanks for this great initiative!

Ok, let's see-
SBI- I am not all that familiar with it, although I have had people recommend it to me and to use it. I did do it but I constantly forget to tag SBI in my posts.I have my hands in many different groups, tags and challenges so I tend to forget SBI.
As for is it worth it... I think it depends who you ask.I have seen some posts saying it's not worth the 1-sbd, while others are thrilled with results. But as the saying goes, you get out what you put in seems to ring true in this situation.
Regarding your page- I see you are following 83 people and have 181 followers. You should consider boosting your visibility; whether joining some of the Discord groups that interest you and start post-promoting your links and posts.
I also see you're commenting as much as you can and interacting. Maybe bump it up some and comment a minimum of 10 times a day. Comment on new people's posts. Interact with people you normally wouldn't. Get your name out there. This will boost your page some.
I know the UPvotes of 0.00 or 0.01 seem like nothing, but this means you are reaching people. The more they upvote you, even if for zero or 1 cent, they will come back. And some day when they keep coming around those zero payouts may equal 0.05 or 0.10 the next time.

Thanks @goldendawne, I actually would like my upvotes on other people's posts to be worth something, and I know I have to have more SP, but not sure how to do this with what I have in my wallet at present. Should I use Steem or SBD to increase SP? Will this enable me to give others something when I upvote?

I have the same trouble with the 0.00 votes. Even at 100% I still hand out goose eggs.
I discovered a little button over on Steemworld. org in the right hand column it says simulate SP.
you can put in any number SP and it will tell you the vote amount at different power levels.
That at least let me know how much I need to gain so I will have a good vote.

@goldendawne Alert incoming silly newbie question.
Can anyone join the Homesteader community? I never considered myself a homesteader. I do own a home on a small patch of land in a rural area. For bonus points I recieved a beekeeper suit, smoker, and muskrat traps for Christmas 😮
I am not growing tons of food, keeping farm animals, living off grid or anything like that.
I have been thinking a lot of the knowledge and culture of the Appalachians would make good blog content. Things like making old school lye soap, canning applesauce over an open fire, the many uses for Dandelion ect. This group seems a great fit for some of my content.
Is the group open to people like me?

Being in the HSO group on Discord doesn't mean you have to be off-grid, a 100% homesteader.
Take me for instance.. I garden, I grow herbs, I cook and bake from scratch, make my own remedies, etc. There are many classifications to being a homesteader. Some people in there only have gardens, while others are raising chickens and small livestock. We are a BIG compilation of people with goals of living more freely, growing and raising our own food, or even becoming more independent or self-reliant.

Thanks! That helps a lot. I have been looking around for 3 weeks. Deciding where I fit in and what to post. I do find myself commenting on the homesteader blogs often.
I wanted to be sure and not misrepresent my reality. I am a lot like you in how I live. That could change at any moment since Hubs keeps suggesting chickens or goats.
Actually I probably need to get over there. Just in case I need to learn what to do with a goat. 🐐
Thanks again for clarifying.

Indeed it is very important to be in a community and with Facebook cracking down on sharing steemit links what better way is it to get yourself into a Discord group and connect with people.
Steemit is all about engagement and yes we can find great people in various posts but being in a Discord community takes engagement up a notch.
I myself are in over Discord communities and active in about 8.. The Promo-mentors, Crypto Empire, Newbie resteem stay, Buddy Up, Steemit Ramble, Steem Star Network, You are Hope and a new Altruistic.
I have joined others but left for different reasons. It is about mixing and matching with the groups you identify with. So don't worry if you leave a group because it is no longer the right one for you. What's important is constantly engaging the community.

When you find groups that you can fit in with, you stay. When you have and see other members supporting you, you support them back.
Being in a Discord group is more than just posting your own links. Communities thrive with support, they can only survive if you just show up and post and leave.

Indeed and it feels nice to have a community to belong, to be one of them and support and mentor them. Then celebrate their triumphs and when they get featured or curied/ocd
A big part of my salvation here in Steemit was when I was in such communities that supported one another and really made you look forward not just to their posts but also the banter in Discord.
The drop and leave link posters i just shake my head on those people.
