Light Yagami is the main character who becomes the villain in the anime itself, Death Note. The death of Light's father is one of the most heartbreaking death scenes among various other scenes.
At the beginning of this anime, Light Yagami does not see himself as a god of death, but as a protector of the oppressed. He kills criminals so that the world is free from evil and things that disturb people's comfort.
In my opinion, Light Yagami is indeed a psychopath who is happy over the death of his rival and natural enemy L. Lawliet but in front of the members of the task force, he is sad and weeps bitterly as if sad over L's death.
However, unlike many viewers who think Light pretends to be sad about his father's death just to get the name Mello from his father who gets Shinigami's eyes, I feel Light is sincere or doesn't act when his father dies. Even when Light loses possession of the Death Note he doesn't want to carry a gun when capturing the Yotsuba Group.
Light Yagami still has a human side. Of course, the psychopathic drama is due to a high sense of justice and idealism even though the method is wrong.
At the beginning of the Death Note anime episode, Light Yagami eradicated all evil using his Death Note. He had no thought of becoming a god or god in the new world. When Soichiro Yagami, the chief investigator of the Kira case and Light Yagami's father, lay weak, Yagami and L visited the hospital. Soichiro's condition at that time was very depressed and he was under a lot of stress because his family was monitored 24 hours by L.
L who wants to confirm that Light Yagami is Kira asks Yagami a few things. He also states that he suspects his sister, Sayu Yagami, of being Kira. When L continued to throw questions aimed at cornering Yagami's position as Kira, he was angry that the questions asked could make Soichiro worse off.
Although, in reality, Soichiro was not too down because he knew that Sayu was innocent. Soichiro, who entered into a contract with Ryuk to gain Shinigami's eyes, was strongly opposed by Yagami. This plan was carried out to discover Mello's real name and identity.
When this plan was implemented, Yagami didn't agree, but Soichiro still insisted on a contract and used his Shinigami eyes to kill Mello. Even Yagami, who was considered cruel and vile, at that time knew that his father was struggling very hard. At first, he wanted to give the contract to others, but in the end, Soichiro still forced Yagami to carry out the plan because Light's father felt responsible for saving Light's younger brother who was captured by Mello.
Before his father's death, I thought it was just an act. When Soichiro dies then Light drops the pen and notebook, it symbolizes that Kira is being "put aside" for the time and Light's true emotions take over and he is truly saddened by his father's death. Tears are blown, very sad music. This is the first time you'll ever see him drop his Death Note, and scream. I guess this is what I mean, is this the first time they've made a death this dramatic? Even more dramatic than the death of L.
At first, Soichiro Yagami was sick, but only L knew exactly what was wrong with him. Light probably forgot that he was sick before allowing him to go to the front line with Mello. When Soichiro made the deal, yes he would die soon. Even when he made the deal, he killed himself early and increased Mello's life span but only one week.
Even when he faced Mello, it was clear at Mello's life span number he should have died that day. But since Light can't write his name, Mello escapes and lives long enough to say that Light and Kira are the same people.
Don't get me wrong, I think Light has mixed feelings. He was not only sad because of the loss of his father, but also lost his father and did not get anything from him namely Mello's real name.
In the end, Light has feelings, but his selfishness far outweighs his affection, this is shown when he hesitates to write Sayu's name because he thinks it will only raise suspicions that she is Kira. Light cared, but not enough to say anything.
