DECENTERNET | Decenteralising The Internet For The Best

Are you not tired of being spied on? Are you not tired of being under surveilance like some kind of thief? I believe I am not the only one tired of the internet that has been totally centralised. And if you are with me, just read on.

Real life is definitely still out there despite the huge effect that internet has to modern life. Nevertheless, it is funny to think about hundreds of ways the internet has changed us. Anyone who was born before the internet era understand what I am about to say here. A few dozens of years ago, kids run home only if their favorite TV show is about to start. These days, it is almost impossible to make them play outside the house. Well, sometimes they do go outside, but only if you will allow them to take their gadgets with them.

We cannot do without internet but we do not like being spied on

Some decades back, a wife would be like "honey, did you pack the camera?" and you would be like "sure. Hope there's enough film!"_ Moving unto these days, the questions are like: _"Di you pack the selfie stick?" And the answers are often like: "Sure! And I'm using it right now. Smile!" And the next you hear is the camera sound.

Okay. How about this?

Years ago, you needed to call the Newspaper to place your ad about selling your car. Sometimes, you would even have to visit their office. then, the potential buyer would keep calling you to get the details. Day after day. Welcome to today. Just click on Facebook and you are done. "Hey guys. I'm selling my car. Please share. Repost."

In a nutshell, the internet has changed our life in too many ways than we could have imagined. We are used to using te internet for almost everything we do. We can get in touch with friends who stay in hundreds of miles away. We do video chat and all that. But then, are we even safe at all?

The unfairness that the monopolistic powerful intermediaries are fringing upon us

The monopolistic powerful intermediaries own our very own data for God sake! Just as some empire controlled almost 90% of the oil that passed through United States in the 1920s, the big five today: Microsoft, Facebook, Google, Amazon and Apple have ripped enormous profit from the control and sale of our private data. Now, whether you agree or are in line with the ethics and directions of these companies, one thing is for certain. Our data has become the oil of the internet age and is going to revolutionized how we precede technology, economics and social good.

I think what many of these tend to gross about is the great amount of the profitable data that each one of us create on a daily basis. The music you listen to, the links you click on, the videos you watch and the fields you scroll - all these generate terabytes of data a second not to mention of producing billions of Dollars in revenue.

Here is the interesting thing. This isn't all bad. In fact, products and services we use on the daily basis become better through this infinite stream of data. Cars with autopilot tend to get better and smarter because of the millions of driving data that have costing effect back on the companies. Facebook constantly improve its Newsfeed every second of on-screen time. What is important however is to understand that every single internet user out there is producing unseen amount of data that can then be saved and sold by certain field companies. So now you get it. A lot of people are watching what we do and the information we create help these companies better and better as they understand the type of people that we are.

Now think about it. The data that we create is owned by exclusively by five or six companies. How is this fair? In today's age especially, when we create product or services that can really help the world, we need the data of other people to understand. The data of these people have invaluable impact and can help us in creating products or services that can really change the world. And unfortunately, the data are held by five or six people in the world who do not even pay us a dime for using our data.
