The concept of virtual real estate and has circulated my periphery for some time, calling for more interest and understanding.
Having taken steps to rectify the gaps in my familiarity with Decentraland, and the values it presents, I'm beginning to comprehend the magnitude of allocating a (virtual) physical space for online, decentralised communities to occupy. Online universities seek to increase and democratise access to knowledge and skills, just as forums facilitate connectivity and shared human experience without borders. This all happens, largely, with text and images on a screen, in a room, alone, somewhere in the real world.
What I'm starting to realise is that all of the benefits offered by a decentralised internet are not incompatible with a field of vision, wandering through a park, browsing markets, and attending conferences with other bodied people.
