Why decentralized services will end up destroying their counterparts who are not?

The Beginning

Basically the Internet is based on the TCP/IP protocol, it is a network of networks that does not depend on any specific machine to function, and nobody can take control of it.

The sad reality of the current situation

If indeed nobody can properly speaking take control of the web, we note nevertheless that today, the web centralizes around a few large entities which thus make the rain and good weather. This phenomenon of centralization concerns services, data and infrastructures and constantly leads to alarming spillover effects on privacy and freedom on the Internet.

Amazon, Facebook, Microsoft, Apple and Alphabet, Google's parent company, have expanded their dominance on the web, each generating billions from our data and digital lives.

The operating systems distributed by Microsoft (Windows) Apple (iOS, OS X) and Google (Android, Google Chrome OS) undoubtedly equip your computer and smartphone. Chances are the online applications and services you use every day also belong to the "Five Ugly Ones": Android, Chrome, Gmail and YouTube are Google, WhatsApp, Messenger and Instagram are owned by Facebook, Microsoft owns Outlook, MSN and Bing. Obviously, these services are extremely popular Android equips nearly nine out of ten smartphones in the world. More than one and a half billion people connect to Facebook every month. Edward Snowden showed us that some intelligence services are happily taking advantage of this data industry and that the National Security Agency (NSA) has had direct access to the considerable amounts of personal information hosted on Microsoft, Google, Facebook and Apple servers since 2007.

The resistance is organizing

Many come to propose decentralized alternatives to all the giants mentioned above, like the social network Steemit using the blockchain or Mastodon direct competitor of twitter which would gain to be more known.

Conclusion

All these projects are really full of promise, the only problem remains to convince the general public to turn to these services.

For many decentralization and its ideals are still too complex to be attractive, yet everything to everyone tired of having to bend to the goodwill of the giants of the net who like Twitter all have power to close your account without explanations.

This will take time, but the mass adoption of decentralization will inevitably end up by arrival, and the Blockchain will be the catyliser.
