thoughts about decentralised file hosting using lbry (or alexandria.io) in a crypto downturn.steemCreated with Sketch.

please bear in mind that we have coffee back in the van again, it’s been maybe about a week since i last had a cup so expect today to be filled with lots of updates and posts and just general mind banter. i hope you will pick out the valued parts and discard the fluff — i mainly focus on lbry.io in this post but i’m guessing the rules still apply to alexandria just maybe they don’t have as much push, for instance, florincoin is not listed on changelly where i did the calculations for lbry credits vs dollars.

right now, i could purchase 250 ish lbry credits for around a 100 bucks, so around £70 gbp. i think it costs me 10 lbc to have a permanent address for my content item (i already paid for the content id of 10 lbc for teamhumble so i don’t need another id right now) so i could put up another 10 courses or bits of content for sale (or free for traffic generation back to me) over there, running the numbers, it’s a nice little punt to have some lbry credits, put up some courses and see if i can make some credits over there for exclusive content or courses that people can’t get from anywhere else, it’s just there on the decentralised lbry platform.

my balance right now of nearly 8 lbry credits would give me 5 steam back if i changed it, obviously i don’t want to change it but it does make me think about spreading the load, lots of different platforms with different content for different audiences. i’ve always been of the thought process that i have to spend a little to make a little (or a lot) — a lot of the times these are a gamble but i wanted to break down why i do it.

  • i like to test out use the platform to see if it achieves what they say it does instead of just say, yeah i use that but without actually posting on it.
  • put your money where your mouth is — supporting a platform and it’s currency means i have to engage there and put some value in to get some
  • the future of video content is always evolving, people are complaining about what they can and cannot post because advertisers are controlling the market of what they attach adverts to what. free speech? nope, you gotta pay to speak these days in some internet realms.
  • decentralised video is the future, micro payments tied to time and value for an intime, inplace, geo located demand is going to be one of those futures i believe that and varying degrees of quality
  • become an early adopter and distributor — the difference between inventing the bearings for skateboards and roller-skates or fucking fidget spinners, you decide which you prefer to be. innovation leader or stack it high, sell it cheap — both work in some ways i guess.

just my thoughts on decentralised video for today, you can now return to your usual memes, viral videos and fear of korea taking us to the brink of nucleur war. have a nice day, kiss your loved ones and be more productive. coffee, the choice of a new generation (until 2040 until it runs out)

peace out! xx

I dont really understand how that does work , I get paid for offering some of my space for the decentral file hosting ... nice Idea ... but what happens if someone of the netwoork has a disconect , are the files lost that where stored there ? Or are all files savedmultiple times to always have them accessable ?

nope. you need to read about it. you don't get paid for offering space. you put your files on a blockchain that people connect too. you can put files up for free or paid, people pay you using credits for your content. it's like youtube but there is a payment feature i guess. btw, you asked about 5 questions all at once like they fell out of ya brain. one at a time friend, one at a time, learn it, understand it, do the next one ;) - files are stored across the network of computers so yes, they are always there ;)

I watched a YT video about it , that old you get paid for offering space ... thank you for correcting that mistake.

lbry://@teamhumble/greenscreen -- you can find my greenscreen course here. install lbry and copy and paste that link to get to it.

I wish I could find time to explore more of these projects. I love the technology even if I don't have a use for them
