Ever since I was a kid at the age of nine years, I have been fascinated with crafts. A neighbor was once crocheting a bed cover and I thought of the time and work she invested in crocheting that huge sheet. Eager to learn, I watched her how she did it and learned the craft. That was the beginning of my love for crocheting. Mom bought me a thread and hook and started to make her some lace for the three huge windows of her canteen.
Decorating is a passion..I love to decorate a room all by myself and that is why I am also fascinated with collecting books anything about crafts. The guest bedroom of my house in Andalusia had been a project, except for the quilt, all things you see from bed canopy and curtains to headboard and passepartout were handcrafted by me so as to make them look custom-made although the frames are of different sizes.
My thirst for knowledge on how things were done, prompted me to learn more. My dad was a carpenter, he was the supervisor of the construction of the first Manila International Airport. I was exposed on so many basic knowledge be it in masonry or fixing small home problems. I learned from him how to work on wood, stencil a design on the wall or how to make muffin forms from empty tin sheets among others.
When I visited a vintage shop of Caritas in Vienna, a non-profit organization, I saw their bookshelves and inspected them. I found Laura Ashley books at a give-away prices and they are all in hard cover. They are old books but you see all basic information and the so many tips in decorating, simple DIYs as well as knowledge in colors. Most of the old books came from the state library which were chosen to be replaced with new books on the subjects.
For me, these books are treasures that added to my collection... so, if you are keen on doing things yourself, such books are vital for your projects. I was just so happy to have visited the shop and found the books.
