This is additional info to my dual-use article that I published two weeks ago

That video in a way shows how the west uses dual-use to get resources into the arms industry.
The military needs aluminium, but when the military imports their own aluminium then it is obvious that the aluminium is being used for weapons. So then they need a different way to get the resources across the border. And this is an example how. With soda cans and other consumer products that use aluminium.

They make a requirement for the consumer market to buy fresh sourced aluminium and forbid to use recycled aluminium for food grade products, soda cans, aluminium foil, aluminium trays, cellphones, apple computers, car parts (aluminium wheel rims) the western consumer product industries import all those expensive resources. Now it looks like all these resources are used for consumer products. We in the west just consume a lot of throw away products. That's a good excuse right?

Then all that crap we bought at very high prices we throw in the garbage. And that's when the arms industry comes into action, they use all the recycled stuff and only buy resources from across a border if there is no other option available.

The video is a very limited example but it perfectly illustrates how recycled consumer crap end up in expensive weapons.

We, the consumers, pay expensive resources that we only throw away. And then our stupid politicians again buy expensive weapons made from cheap recycled sources and you can imagine how there is room to cook the books to make recycled resources look like expensive sourced materialsfrom across the border. This is how corrupt money can be washed and funneled into tax-haven bank accounts like in Panama for instance. I don't know how to actually prove that, but the Panama papers leaks from last year exposed quiet a number of politicians and corporate players who have been doing shady things. Maybe we need a DeepDives into Panama papers one day. Or a challenge that ties panama Papers to Wikileaks documents?

PS this is NOT a DeepDives entry, it is just an appendix to my Dual-use article

It's safer now. Coke probably kills more people than guns do. :)

And not even as a drink... the way they source the water for coke is the real killer
