Nov 24th - I’ve seen many people asking where the name DeepOnion comes from. Many people think the name is thought as just for fun. People seem to think DeepOnion is just an odd name. So now, once and for all, I’m going to explain where DeepOnion comes from. The core team of the DeepOnion consist 4 professional dev's. First some information about the past.
July 2017.
The DeepOnion was pre-announced, the website was launched (www.deeponion.org) and people became interested. The DeepOnion was announced at the Bitcointalk forum and at 6 July 2017 the first reactions came in. DeepOnion is a fact. After a while the DeepOnion blockchain and mining started and after that the signature promotion started, people could sign up for free DeepOnion airdrops. 12.5 million onions would be dropped in the 40 announced airdrops freely.
12 July
First airdrop started and more and more people participated. Later the forum was launched and people started their first threads. Can you believe it? Four months ago, this forum was empty. Today’s moderators started as one of the first participants. Yeah some moderators were members first! DeepOnion started trading at exchanges, twitter/facebook campaign started and a youtube channel was launched. Also the wallets were launched.
DeepOnion
There’s no official announcement which explain the truth about the name of the DeepOnion. But common sense can make a good answer. First you have to understand the whole idea of the DeepOnion. DeepOnion fights for anonymity and security. Protecting your personal data and caring about your online safety. DeepOnion is the next generation.
Deep: Deep comes from the TOR network. A part of the TOR network is also called deep web. It’s called like this because content in the deep web can’t be found by standard search engines. The biggest weakness of the Deep web is also its greatest strength: it’s really hard to find anything.
Onion: Onion comes from its many layers. The heart of the onion is secured by many layers. It’s metaphorical the deep web, which is really hard to find because of its many layers. The onion also stands for the highly secure transactions and untraceable payments.
So DeepOnion is not just an odd name like SpaceCarrot or SteepMelon. DeepOnion is a unique name thought by a genius.
Over and out
Good write up on the name and I've seen another of your articles about part of the history of DeepOnion @sirjustin.
Who is that genius?
Where might I find the original prospectus about the company, that may have been initially put out, prior to these phases that began around July 6, 2017?
Thanks
NOTE: If you can direct me to how to use the markup properly (see tags in this post), I'd appreciate that much as well (no need for a complete tutorial). Thanks
