For those of you who don't know what aikido is, it's a form of martial art that uses the opponents momentum against themselves. Aikido can deal with weapons and an attack whether that be a punch, a chop or even a grab. Leading me to wonder whether or not aikido is the counter to karate.
The answer is yes. Although Aikido doesn't have any real out going attacks, it simply allows you to defend yourself and others from attacks. This means that Aikido can only work someone tries to attack, unlike karate where the main move sets are attacks.
Aikido focuses on going with your opponents strengths, meaning the more effort they put in, the easier it is for you. Aikido simply works due to the fact that the moves revolve around circular movements. This is somewhat logical when you think about the way momentum and centrifugal forces work. However, this doesn't answer the question of whether Aikido is the ultimate for of self defence martial art.
In my opinion Aikido is the best Genuine self defence methods, however it would be made perfect if it were to be coupled with kick boxing. Attached below are some helpful YouTube clips that should explain Aikido a bit better than I have to those of you that are interested in it.
