After finishing Iron Fist Season 1, I continued going through the Marvel Netflix shows. Next up was Defenders Season 1. Progress has been slow, because I've been busy with life, so I'm only about 4 episodes in. But so far I really like it. I'd say it's better than the first seasons of Jessica Jones, Cage, and Iron Fist. However, I am very glad I slugged through all of those, so I can catch all the references.
Sigourney Weaver is really solid, and Elektra got a lot better at fight scenes. Actually, I feel like I have to recant my earlier position that Elektra's fight scenes were a bit rough. I get it now. Because she hadn't yet turned into what she turned into, she wasn't quite the master assassin that I'm familiar with. If they had made her a really great fighter from the beginning, there wouldn't have been any way to go up.
I also find it interesting that Iron Fist seems to be the main character in the series, or at least the member of the group that the story centers around. The others are kind of just supporting him so far.
I am getting a little tired of all the self-deprecating comments about the "cheesy" names and concepts that come directly from the comics. Maybe it's just because I grew up with these characters, but I don't find The Hand, or The Chaste, or teams of superheroes to be anything that needs poking fun at. And they do it all the time.
However, I think I can see that this season is going to hold a lot of answers to some of the questions raised in previous series. I'm sure that huge hole The Hand is digging is going to okay prominently into the story. I love it when there's a long payoff delayed by several years, and that seems to be the case here. Also, Madame Gao is turning out to be much more than just a drug kingpin. I'm interested to see where this goes. Don't tell me.
