This week Triple Talaq was criminalized in my country and so many women were relieved from the distress of being abruptly abandoned by oral declaration of divorce! There were other women and men, who upheld the right to freedom of religion and protested saying they should be allowed to practice it in the name of faith, but Indian judiciary made it clear that faith is allowed in our country but not at the cost of basic rights of women who are the victims to these.There
Democracy has been extremely positive in India and this is just one of the many instances. We have had a history of colonization before becoming a free country, and a history of an almost dictatorial regime in the 1970s after becoming a free country, but democracy thrived, saving the people their fundamental rights such that my life is protected by law, I can afford to choose a government which suits my interests, and have them accountable!
