America was never a democracy the word is never used in our constitution. the idea was simply something that was marketed to us - because as a whole, we are disconnected from our most direct experience of the world through ideology (let's just be honest guys about some things). Very few people can even define what a democracy is, let alone point at one instance of it in society: I challenge anyone to point to one Institution in the United States of America that is in fact democratic.
I know we were told by all of our news media, church groups, politicians and schools that America is about democracy and freedom and when we go to war, we were bringing American democracy to them; but I don't know about you, but it looked more like carpet bombing to me.
The most ironic part is that my only experience with witnessing Democracy in America was out in the parks in New York City during the Occupy Wall Street movement, when they actually tried to create horizontal direct democracy throughout the movement. And of course these attempts were met by brutal police enforcement in riot gear... even as the news was reporting about our efforts to bring democracy to the Middle East through a policy of carpet bombing they were showing the images of police putting down the only expression of democracy I have ever seen as a US citizen.
So much for our news... so much for our assumptions about democracy and America.
