Had Jefferson Davis or Robert Lee run for office after the civil war, there would be few who would question whether there had been an insurrection, or whether they aided and abetted it.
But there is no consensus that there even was an insurrection, or any coordinated and organized attempt at such a thing that anyone of note was knowingly involved in, in any meaningful way whatsoever related to Jan 6.
Fuck Trump, sure. But don't tear down positive aspects of our system just to get him. Democrats are doing W's "I had to abandon free market principles in order to save the free market system", and it's not a good look (to put it mildly).
I'm not a fan of democracy. But I think rule of law is tits, and would like to avoid a slide from a supposed if imperfect republic into a banana republic, thank you very much.
