A chilly night of rain in Denver brought me to the Cervantes venue for another great night of music hosted by Sub.mission.. It had been my first time hearing all of the artists this evening and Govinda was recommended to me once or twice before. One of the opening acts Coult-45 was playing at the time I arrived. From the very start I could tell I was in for a good night with the talent of the music growing ever more throughout event. I listened to the drum and bass beats mixed up with dub step into a glitch type of surreal sounds encompassing the room. The atmosphere became heavy with smoke and lights from the stage illuminated the crowd. Snubluck came in with the next set and then people all of a sudden started to fill the belly of the ballroom. There are a number of things going on all at once when you head to these kind of shows. First off Diverse Glass and other local vendors fill the sides of the venue with merchandise. Skaadi a local artist and one other paint on a blank canvas on stage and usually the music directly inspires what they draw.
David Starfire is a producer, composer, multi-instrumentalist, DJ and has the perfect name to start a sentence. A California based musician who plays large festivals came to this small intimate setting to play for us. His music is everything I would expect it to be and energy represents why he has fans all around the world. A great atmosphere and good group of people were there partying with musicians from out of this world. I was happy to be within the walls of the building. I noticed people were LED hula hooping in what small space was available in the back of the crowd. Everybody was dancing and moving to the beats as they walk by. Dancers entered onto the stage in mystical foreign outfits which brought up the energy as the show goes on.
The headliner of the event was Govinda and when he started playing the lights started to move all over the room. He plays the violin while mixing together compositions of music he has produced throughout time. A famous collaborator with many other superstars such as Bassnectar and STS9.. His live show embraces the audience with exotic beats and dubtronic vibes along with an amazing visual display. The world class dancers joined him on stage as sounds from the strings of the violin travel through soundboard to produce magical sounds, that's right I said it. The dancers float around spinning with silk cloth and are lit by the lights on stage periodically to produce silhouettes of women dancing with Govinda himself. As the beats and bass of the music he creates dance right back with the dancers. The vocals take you into a trance that could put you in deep space or a journey far away in a jungle somewhere. The moment you realize that you're just standing in the club means it's time to grab another drink. Don't stop for one second to think you will be leaving the show early this is one show you must definitely close down the bar with.
