Yeah this has been weird to witness. If you go by a lot of the social media takes, Amber Heard is the clear villain and Depp is completely innocent, if you go by a lot of the news coverage of the trial, things are more complicated and Depp certainly doesn't look especially good either. Just a huge divide like there are two different trials.
Just be careful how much of your perception of something is shaped by what you want these people to be like in your mind and how much of the information is filtered. These celebrities are still just people.
I think it's important to note when things first started getting bad, and why.
It really does seem like she started it. What did she start? At the very least emotionally abusing him to the point of drug abuse.
Once the drug abuse started, most, if not all the inappropriate shit he says it's coming from a place of insecurity. She's a sl**, he says. She's apparently cheating. She's checking up on her and approaching her co-workers both in public and over text.
How does she respond? By telling him things that made him feel less of a man. By throwing shit at him. By hitting him. And she doesn't just admit it, her and her team try to justify it, and in several basis. On the basis that she's smaller than him? On the basis that it's apparently ok for her to hit him? On the basis that she's on drugs or no longer stable?
I'm at the point where I'm totally willing to accept that he physically abused her, but not without noting that he was probably fighting back or totally provoked, and while I'm not trying to defend hitting people over provocation, he's clearly not in any state to handle the provocation appropriately, and I don't think any side is arguing otherwise. I think both sides have successfully painted the other as unstable.
I'm against Amber on this because she's literally playing victim, but in a manipulative and deceptive manner. It doesn't look good publicly. Johnny is playing open and honest, to the point where he's saying things he probably doesn't wanna say, while Amber has to rely on a forensic psych to admit she was PURPOSEFULLY being manipulative, but on the basis of some sort of fair game. There's nothing fair about you being able to be, dare I say evil and conniving, while I'm just not that type of person. I don't think Depp is that kind of person. And I think it's worth noting that some of the worst shit Depp ever said, was in confidence, and to his friends. While Amber said some of the worst shit to Depp's face. But somehow Depp is being painted as if he threatened her, in texts he made to his friends?
I think it's possible to be anti amber, but not pro Depp here. But I am pro Depp here. Maybe he's fooled me, and simply truly the better actor, but from all the evidence so far, poor guy is what I think.
