It is better that your teen never gets in a situation of depression.... But still we need to be prepared for worst case scenario....
So what to do or where to go if your teen is a victim of depression.
Different health professionals (such as GPs, psychologists and psychiatrists) offer different types of services and treatments for depression. Let's have a look at each of them
- General Practitioners (GPs)
GP is the first step for someone seeking professional help. A good GP can:
• make a diagnosis
• check for any physical health problem that maybe contributing to the depression
• discuss available treatments
• work with the person to design a Mental Health Treatment Plan so he or she can get a good psychological treatment
• provide brief counselling or, in some cases, talking therapy
• prescribe medication
• refer a person to a mental health specialist such as a psychologist or psychiatrist. - Psychologists
Psychologists are health professionals who provide psychological therapies such as cognitive behaviour therapy (CBT) and interpersonal therapy (IPT). Clinical psychologists specialists in the diagnosis and treatment of depression - Counsellors
Counsellors can work in a variety of environments, including community health centres, schools and universities and youth services. A counsellor can talk through different problems a person may be experiencing and look for possible solution which will be best suitable for the particular patient.
I will highly advice all the parents not to hit and trial methods.... Or delay the visit to the experts as it might deteriorate the condition and..... You won't be happy regretting your decisions.
