In this series of articles I'll be sharing the best or most interesting articles I've read that week when it comes to Design. The focus is mostly on UX, UI and Product design though anythign that comes my way and has good quality can make it here.
There will be some quick notes from me so you can see if it's worth clicking through or the notes might be enough for you.
So let's start.
Designing for Blockchain
We all love Blockchain here so it makes sense to share an article that talks about different challenges in Blockchain. Working in Blockchain startup and just beign around this community I was happy to see certain observations verbalized as it brought more clarity for me.
Quick notes
- New users want more hand-holding and transparency on what's happening.
- Clear communication and consistency is key.
- Not every user has the same level ox exposure to Blockchain technology.
What game UX can teach us about Product Design
There is one person playing a game more than 3 hours a week in each hosuehold. Games grab their users. So what can we learn from them?
- Create meaningful choices
- Challenge your users
- But at the same tine let the user master the product quickly
- keeps users hooked in engagement loops
- reward users to strir up motivation
Complete Novice to Full-time Product Designer in 1-2 years
Are you starting out? Wanna earn at least 90k a year (in US) in one or two years? Here's a great write-up on how to get there, what to expect and what to learn. Very good read and well written article I have to say. Seems like a great blog, too though I have to say the UX of finding older articles is shit as hell.
In any case, here are the high level steps
- Keep your existing job
- Start with just three basic skills
- Start waking up early to work on side projects
- Land your first jr. design job
- Choose a specialty
- Transition to a product designer role
And for UX specific learning I also recommend this website. There are even great free articles.
Invision Studio is out, will designers switch?
If you're a designer you're surely excited about InVisin studio. Though will you actually switch?
A pretty good article that talks about certain developments in the more and more competing Design tool space.
Only thing that I miss is a mention of Figma/ which is my weapon of choice. I hope they survive InVisio Studio as from what I can tell, up till now they were the best choice for multi-platfrom collaboration.
Another caveat, Sketch has just released possibility to create clickable prototypes in their latest update.
The fight is on.
User Research on a Budget
User research is not too expensive
A great article with a case study that will show you how guerilla user research methods can be used to stay within a budget and still do a proper user-centered design process You need your users in your UX.
If you see some good articles worth reading let me know and they might make it in next week. If they are from Steemit, even better :).
