Hi Steemit!
My name is Kyle, I'm an American user experience designer. I’ve been working remotely and traveling around the last few years* but recently settled into a more permanent design job in Shanghai, China.
I love reading about cognitive psychology and the way that human sensation and perception at the behavioral level, and broader understanding through narrative at the reflective level come together to form the human experience. In practice, this means a lot of design research and, of course, interface designs.
I also blog at Knowledge in Society, a site named after F.A. Hayek's essay about "...dispersed bits of incomplete and frequently contradictory knowledge." It is a celebration of little things that I've found here and there around the world. I usually don't fully understand them, but feeling your own brain try to make sense of things is always a delightfully humbling experience.
Other than that, I just read a lot. Lots of history, tons of those pop-psychology books, and things that I can find about different cultures trying to understand one another. I like listening to people talk about politics, but I don't have any strong affiliations personally.
I also love photography and I’m learning Mandarin and reading a lot about Chinese history and culture!
Looking forward to making lots of new friends on this platform!

Ah, no! You need to repost this in #introduceyourself ! No one will see it where you posted it.
My brief introduction guide I wrote for new users I want to succeed:
Steemit's got a steep learning curve, but it's worth it in the long run if you keep putting in the time! Just know that it will take quite a while before you start getting attention and followers. Keep posting high quality content regularly, and make sure to search out other people's posts, read them, and give relevant comments on their posts!
There are also a lot of really good resources out there for minnows (new users). You should check out the following:
@qurator
@thesteemengine
@originalworks
@steembasicincome
@minnowsupport
Tagging is also super important. Always make sure to use all five possible tags, and to keep them relevant. (You can always just tag something "blog" or "photography" or something else really general to fill the quota if you need to be- most of your tags should be established ones, too.
Always make sure to attach a photo to your posts! You should also finish your profile: Write a description, add a profile picture and a banner- neither needs to be of you, necessarily, but you should have something. You should also set either your blog or your photo portfolio- probably the latter- as the website linked to in your profile.
You can check out my profile for examples of a lot of this stuff!
And, again, the biggest thing is just patience. Breakout successes are incredibly rare on steemit- you've got to find your way there through perserverance and hard work. It takes a while.
