Twisting courtyard

in design •  7 years ago

Direction Beijing to discover this magnificent renovation signed ARCHSTUDIO. This Siheyuan (traditional Chinese house with inner courtyard) has been upgraded and modernized to eliminate the solemn and stereotyped impression of Siheyuan and create an active living atmosphere.

On the basis of the existing layout of the courtyard, the corrugated floor is used to connect indoor and outdoor spaces of different heights. It extends inside the house, curving in the walls and roof, creating a dynamic connection between interior and exterior. Auxiliary spaces such as the kitchen and toilet are hidden in the curved wall. While the reception and restoration spaces are placed outside the curved wall and connect to the courtyard. The interior and exterior floors are paved with gray bricks. The small courtyard is mainly used as an urban public space while retaining the possibility of being used as a residence. The four houses can be rented for public events. The integrated furniture is used to allow the flexible change of spatial scenes.
