Bohemian House

in design •  7 years ago

New World Development has completed a housing project in Hong Kong designed to accommodate a new generation of sophisticated city dwellers, with interiors that celebrate art, crafts, food and local heritage.

Entrepreneur Adrian Cheng from New World Development worked with Japanese interior design company Simplicity and architect Thomas Cheung Kong-Yeung to design Bohemian House, located at Des Voeux Road in Hong Kong West District. Historically, this district has been associated with family businesses that sell dried seafood and other ingredients that are an integral part of traditional local cuisine. But in recent years, the area has seen an influx of cafes, art galleries and independent shops in Western style. The team of architects and designers hoped to capture this heritage of culinary and cultural fusion by creating bespoke houses for the "urban gypsies" who settled in this neighborhood.

The key element of the project is the kitchen space, designed to allow residents to share their culinary traditions and knowledge with their neighbors and friends, which will foster a sense of community. The use of copper gives the space a luxurious and warm tone: copper panels accent the recessed units, while sparkling copper pans hang against the gleaming black tiles, used as decoration when not in use. The outdoor cooking area consists of a barbecue area, located next to a swimming pool and a dining room.
