Personally prefer Revit Architecture over Sketchup for it's BIM capabalities. However Sketchup is a good free alternative. Another software I tend to use to quickly mockup some interiors is Sweet Home 3D, which has the added advantage of being cross platform.

    I'm using Sweet Home 3d on Linux for a re-modelling project. It's pretty good.
