Part II of detailing a rare Porsche 911 Carrera 3,2 Targa .
Part I was simply about car's history , today is a day for assessment and to determine what procedure to use .
After i cleaned clear coat with clay bar i proceeded with IPA ( alcohol mixed with water ) just to get totally cleaned surface .
I have talk about orange peel in previous post , it usually looks like this :
You can see that surface is uneven and it has to bee worked on . So i decided to sand these part starting with 3M Trizact P1000 followed with P3000 then finishing with P6000 . On some spots i have used P800 .
Also on rear right fender i made test just to be sure what compound to use
This is condition of clear coat on parts without orange peel , so it was by my standards horrible .
This is what i do to see with what kind of compound is good to use , harder or softer , in different combinations with polishing pads .
So you see where the protective tape was , and on the left and right side is condition after just one pass . It looked fine by me so push on .
U see how much compound residue is around ? But results are better and better .
Ok , so time is come to wash the car again , i always clean cars after second pass and before application of superfine polishing paste . I want to preserve what i have done to that point. Sometimes that residue or compound dust go in soft polishing pad and you got your self swirls again . So keep you car and space where you work clean as much as possible .
So up to the point before detailer applies first layer of wax average time consumed is around 18 to 24 work hours . That's in case of rare birds and really expensive cars . Normal regular cars up to 12 hours , price and steps are negotiated with owners so they know what they will get for that money.
Detailing of this wonderfull car costed 1800 EUR , owner knows what i can deliver for that money , warranty of 1 year included :) I provide warranty for customers because i use really expensive protective layers like Gyeon or even better Modesta .
Wax has been applied by hand and for first layer left to cure 24 hours . After first layer residue has removed i apply one more layer and leave to cure for 4-6 hours .
It's critical that u use waxes from known producers . I divide them on commercial and pro . If someone has questions regarding this fell free to put them in comment .
That's all in Part II , final result and pictures in Part III.
Thanks for reading , subscribe for more :)
