my two cents on music and incomesteemCreated with Sketch.

Die deutsche Version beginnt nach den Bildern.

Music is, and should be accessibly to anyone, and can be performed by everybody. That's one of the basics with most arts.
Going with that, arts are also a way to express your mind, and therefore are a part of 'free speech'.
Nowadays, with the possibilities of electronic media, everybody is given a way to present himself or art to basicly all of the digital world.
We should be glad for having this freedom.

But making a living of it?
For what i am writing here, i am taking my tiny bit of insight in music business over the last 30 years in concern.
Live, Money is mostly with cover bands, best for events (like weddings etc.).
Live cover music always made a good revenue.
As Artists doing original music, earnings come in with merchandising and some collateral Sources (Sponsoring etc.).
Venues paying out are rare, and sometimes only by audience donation.
In most cases i have talked to bands, it bearly paid the costs for the gig, and that's my experience too (and some are going really cheap on rides and overnights;).
House concerts can be a source for some.
Making enough with streams is quite a task with these few percentages of an cent per stream.

But look at it that way, that's the price for this freedom, that everybody can display each work.
It's about supply and demand. With all that freedom we have a big amount of supply, but demand didn't grow with that.
On the other hand, most arts have to share or overlap with other 'recreational time' activities.

Is it good or bad?

A bit of both (now, who would have thought that ;)
If you can't make a living of it it must be at least something that comes from your heart!😁

Any revenue you make from your art, might gives you more time to do what you love.
I see Steemit as way where this work / income balance can be good way to recup something, and still being in that freedom.
...and the rest is on our audience.😉

Have a wonderful Time Folks and keep reaching for that rainbow👍🌈

-------- DEUTSCHE VERSION --------

anderen "Freizeit Anfragen" teilen.

Totally agree as an original artist that it's almost impossible to get paid gigs. Hell most venues don't even give us a free drink!!

However I do believe things are about to change thanks to blockchain technology.

It is still very early days and we have seen a few platforms launch that pay in crypto currency for every stream and instantaneously too, unlike Spotify for example where the revenue per stream is tiny and you have to wait months to get paid.

The new crypto platforms have struggled because there just aren't enough people who understand about blockchain at the moment. We need to be patient and support each new platform that comes out to help propel the industry forward.

We are the "early adopters" and when the masses come we will have all the knowledge to pass on and help independent musicians finally make a reasonable amount of money from our music.
