Der Kernbeißer ist die größte heimische Art unter den Finken. Das ganze Jahr über kann man diesen Vogel beobachten. In der wärmeren Jahreszeit bekommt man ihn nur sehr selten zu Gesicht. In den Wintermonaten ziehen sie um her auf der Suche nach Nahrung. Da in den Wohngegenden gerne Futter bereitgestellt wird, bedienen sie sich von diesem reich gedeckten Tisch. Das ist auch die beste Gelegenheit, diesen scheuen Vogel aus nächster Nähe zu fotografieren.

The hawfinch is the largest native species among the finches. You can watch this bird all year round. In the warmer months of the year it is very seldom seen. In the winter months, they migrate in search of food. Since food is readily available in the residential areas, they help themselves from this richly laid table. This is also the best opportunity to photograph this shy bird at close range.

Am besten positioniert man eine Futterstelle in der Nähe von Bäumen oder Sträucher. Mit etwas Tarnung und natürlich einer gehörigen Portion Geduld, kann man diesen prächtigen Vogel so wie weitere Arten beobachten. Wichtig ist, dass der Kernbeißer immer einen Ansitz in der Nähe der Futterstelle finden kann.

It is best to position a feeding place near trees or bushes. With some camouflage and of course a good portion of patience, you can observe this magnificent bird as well as other species. It is important that the hawfinch can always find a seat near the feeding place.

Der Kernbeißer ernährt sich vorwiegend von Samen und Früchten. Bei mir haben sich ungeschälte Sonnenblumenkerne und Hanfsamen als Lockmittel bestens bewährt. Hat der Vogel erst einmal vom Futter gefressen, kommt er immer wieder. Zum Fotografieren muss man sehr vorsichtig vorgehen und mit einer guten Tarnung arbeiten. Der Vogel ist sehr scheu und reagiert auf jede kleine Bewegung.

The hawfinch feeds mainly on seeds and fruits. In my case, unpeeled sunflower seeds and hemp seeds have proven to be very effective as attractants. Once the bird has eaten from the food, it comes back again and again. To take pictures you have to proceed very carefully and work with a good camouflage. The bird is extremely shy and reacts to every little movement.
