The Google Doodle today honors the Romanian engineer Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu on her 131st birthday. Who was this remarkable woman?
On November 10, Romanian engineer Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu celebrated her 131st birthday. For this she is honored by Google with a globally distributed doodle, which of course can also be seen in Germany. Her name may be known to only a few in this country, but she has acquired after studying in Germany great merit in the study of mineral resources.
Today's Google Doodle is again on an interesting presentation of the Google logo with the elements that are thematically. The individual letters are made of different stones or minerals, all of which are determined and labeled. Above the small "g" is a book cover depicting Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu.
Google Doodle: Elisa Leonida Zamfirescu was the first female Dipl.-Ing. in Romania
Although she has devoted herself exclusively to natural resources, she is one of the most impressive female engineers - for such a title was not a given at the beginning of the 20th century. In fact, she was the first female certified engineer from Romania and also the first to have obtained this title in Germany. Since she was denied a degree in her native Romania, she studied in Germany, at today's TU Berlin. Even there, however, their project was not without resistance of the line.
After her studies, she returned to Romania and became head of the laboratory at the Geological Institute in Bucharest. She also had to fight hard for this position, since women were not allowed to hold such positions officially at the time. However, she eventually overcame all resistance and researched her country's most important natural resources, their potential and the extraction of raw materials.
