Abandoned to Truth

How quickly one will turn away their eyes from seeing truth
Especially when countered by the things they've learned from youth
How quickly they'll refuse to hear the words someone might say
Instead of dropping to their knees and starting there to pray

That God will help them understand what He would have them learn
From pages in the scriptures that His Spirit helps them turn
Where precious truths of righteousness like apples wrapped in gold
Can be more clearly understood than things that they've been told

For nowhere in God's promises would He have us confuse
The Truth from His divinity with errors others use
But with each precious gem of truth we grasp through living faith
We find a more abundant flow of undiminished grace

The grace that's in the Bible through each living word God's shared
That gives to us His perfect love that shows how much He cared
When through His scribes and prophets He revealed His perfect love
Designed for preparation to attend the courts above

The courts that in His kingdom will be occupied by those
Who set aside what they believed and very firmly chose
To carefully and prayerfully seek out God's Way in Truth
And not to rest emphatically upon there early youth

For feelings are deceptive when not guided by God's Word
And many are the souls who've lost their way through things they've heard
When not compared with scripture that God chose to share with men
To help them see the errors that will lead to deadly sin

And many are the promises His Spirit will provide
To those who will abandon self and in His presence hide
Through hours of meditation focused solely on God's Word
Where His sweet invitation to His throne room can be heard

For when we set aside the past and things that we've received
From others who have told us what they think we should believe
And seek to comprehend the perfect truths God has for us
Established by the Bible where we find His words to trust

We can with all assurance know with every confidence
The essence of Christ's presence that will be our sure Defense
And know with deepest intimacy His truth that will preserve
The love He died to share with those who choose God's Truth to serve

Psalm 71:1-8; 2 Samuel 22:31; John 1:12-14
